Switching from mono to poly "lead synths"

Post by randylivestock »

Hello,

I understand how to switch a lead patch to poly and then save it, but is there a way to do this temporarily with a switch or button or the touch screen?

I'd like to be able to utilize the lead solo features to keep a solo clean and then be able to switch to chord soloing midsong.

Does this make sense?

Thanks for any help.

nope. I've been asking for this "feature" since the Triton Classic came out. The fact that they don't allow you to set a button as mono/poly (like thier old synths had) is a major oversight in my opinion. The other thing I think they should change is the ability to set your pedal switch to be momentary or on/off.

I've never seen a response from Korg on why they couldn't implement this so it's probably a matter of "won't", not "can't".

All I can say is, I feel your pain. This would be a very useful feature...

I'm fairly new to Korg so correct me if I'm off base. You could you save near duplicate programs, one with mono and one with poly, and place them as timbres in a combi together Then either mute and unmute them manually, or use something like the limiter trick to shut off the volume of one or the other. I could see how it could be set up to switch back and forth on SW1 for example. I understand there are trade offs in this approach but would it work for you?

if you are making them seperate programs, you could even assign a knob or switch in the program that responds by increasing the volume of one or decreasing the volume of the other, therefore negating the need to use up IFX as switching devices.

similarly, you could just place them in different banks but at the same number so you can switch between them with the bank buttons. Either way, I think having them as different programs is the way to go.

Placing two programs in a combi reduces your polyphony. It's also a LOT of work when they can assign a button to any programing parameter they choose.

On the old Korg stuff, the MONO button would also layer all of the voices and slightly detune them which is part of the reason the leads sound so thick and awesome on the old gear.

Imagine a synth patch you can play chords on that doesn't take over the mix then hit a single button and it creates this massive wall of mono.

I miss that... :(

Thanks for the info. I will likely put two programs in the same combi or set up two combis right next to each other so I can switch with one button.

I could also learn how to play the solo cleaner. But who has time for that??
