Hello, new here as well as a 1st time Korg owner..I recently purchased the M50-88 and have been using it for shows/gigs the past 2 months.
1 question I have is about the sounds/samples in this unit...
Are these the same or some of the same sounds from any other Korg products? Im talking some of the bread n butter sounds...clav's, organs, synth brass/brass? If so, what Korg product/s are they from?
As far as the unit, the action is a bit sluggish, but the BnB sounds are great.
Soundmen seem to love this thing.. cuts the mix very well..
I also like the multi's...Ive already moded a bunch of my most used sounds into a user bank so I have all of my sounds on 1 page for shows...beats searching thru endless pages...
Am thinking of picking up a Triton rack, so the info on the sounds/samples would be helpful. I like the M3 but I need a module, and the "brain" of that unit simply isnt a rackmountable unit.
Thks for the info. M.

Every sample based keyboard in the world comes with bread & butter sounds. So the M-50 is not based on any other keyboard. It's got it's own new Sound Engine that cannot be found in order products. Are these the same or some of the same sounds from any other Korg products? What do you mean ? The keyboard would have almost Zero latency. As far as the unit, the action is a bit sluggish, but the BnB sounds are great.

If the attack rate of some sounds is not what you prefer, then you can make adjustments and save your changes.
Yep... good idea.I also like the multi's...Ive already moded a bunch of my most used sounds into a user bank so I have all of my sounds on 1 page for shows...beats searching thru endless pages...
Makes “Playing” more enjoyable.
The Triton Rack is a great work horse for sure, although a bit old now. If you look in the download section here at KORG Forums you will see that there are thousands of free sounds available for it too. I can't see you picking one up for new at this point, but if you get a good deal on one it would be a good buy.Am thinking of picking up a Triton rack, so the info on the sounds/samples would be helpful. If your looking for new, I'd look towards Roland or Yamaha for a module right now that you cam Rack Mount.

Thanks for the info...
So none of the organs, clavs etc are available on any other Korg product? Take for example the brassy synth sound so common on YellowJackets recordings for years now. I have that sound on the M50, and that has been available for years on a number of Korg synths..one of the reason I actually purchased the Korg.
As far as the action, it is sluggish,
it doesnt have the positive feel I like in a piano action.. . As far as latency..mabey our definitions of latency and sluggush are a bit different..Latency I encounter utilizing soft sample based instruments used in a daw...sluggish means just that... every pianist has their own personal preferences as far as piano/action goes, and mabey this unit will "break in" so to speak. At least Im hoping it does.
Are there free sounds to dload for this unit also? Thanks, I will check those out..Ive never done it, so I will have to see how thats done, which is probably in the manuel and/or on the net.
As far as modules go, Ive had Roland, Ensoniq and a few others, I like the clavs, brass, strings n organs in the Korg better, hence my questions about finding a Korg module. Im a freelance player and I find myself in a lot of different situations, many times there are keyboards on the show, so its easier for me to drag along a module to insure that I have sounds I like on hand. I just think it odd for Korg to come out with these new units, M50 and M3 and not have a rack mountable unit availble. In my travels, I find that there are still a lot of module users out there, many of them like Korg...why would Korg leave that market to Roland or anyone else for that matter?? I would actually buy and M50/M3 rack if 1 were available.
Thats why Im asking about the Triton Rack and hoping the samples are close to the M50..there are plenty of those for sale.
Thanks for the reply Sharp..mucho apptd..

The M3 can be bought in module-only format - the M3M. However, it isn't rack mountable - it is too wide. Sits nicely on top of something else with a flat top though like a piano or organ, or even on top of an amplifier. Suppose it is more of a tabletop module.Mundo wrote: As far as modules go, Ive had Roland, Ensoniq and a few others, I like the clavs, brass, strings n organs in the Korg better, hence my questions about finding a Korg module. As for the sounds, I do think KORG recycles some samples, or at least records the sources again. for example the M1 organ and M1 piano are classics. Sharp was mainly talking about the actual samples used to create the programs - the basic recordings which the programs start with.
As for the actual programs (sounds and samples are two very different things), The programmers probably did try to emulate some of the classic KORG sounds like you mention, but it will always turn out slightly different, and for example the older sounds can't be loaded directly into the M50 or M3 because the newer engine's program parameters are entirely different. hence approximations. Sometimes they are even considered improvements. However, there are lots of new samples and programs in the M3 and M50 too!
