korg m50 @ DAW

Post by dempoint »

Hi. I would like to use korg m50 as sound module in my DAW (fruity loops). I prefer making tracks in my DAW cuz it is much easier than on internal korgs sequecer. But the problem is I can load only one korg m50 vst into my DAW. So I can use only one sound from my korg while composing new song:/ is there any way how to use more than one sound?I mean record piano on track 1 and then for example record strings on track 2 and so on... Sorry for my bad english.

One instance of the editor/librarian software can handle 16 different sounds at once... Make sure you're in SEQ mode, and you'll be able to select and modify all 16 sounds simultaneously.

Rich, maybe you can help.

I have an M50 and a Macbook running Garageband and I need to know how to setup everything. As of now, I don't have any speakers, just headphones.

What to setup on the M50 and on Garageband? What about the connections? Just plug the USB Midi cable? How can I listen to the Metronome on Garageband? Do I need to plug an Audio cable from the M50 to rhe Mac as well?

Thanks

I can't walk you through every single step, but I can tell you what you'll need to connect:

You'll need the USB cable plugged in for MIDI, and you'll want to run the Editor/Librarian software as a plug-in. If you want to record audio from the M3, you'll need to connect the M50's audio outputs to the audio inputs on your computer. Sounds like your next step should be getting a good audio interface and monitor speakers.

Not sure about the metronome in Garage Band, I don't use it myself.

I don't want to record Audio, just Midi from the M50.

When I have the M50 plugged in via the USB Midi cable and open Garageband/Sound Generator, the M50 appears as "M50 Plug In Editor" and starts a sync process between the DAW and the M50. (is there a way to stop this 2 way sync?)

I know I have to put the M50 in Seq Mode but my question is: how do I need to setup the MIDI parameters on the M50.

Thanks

That sync process is needed to make sure the soundset on the M50 matches what's in the editor. Page 30 of the Editor Owner's Manual has the procedure for setting up an autoload file, so you don't have to sync every time.

As far as setting up the MIDI parameters, that all depends on how you like to work. Check out page 18 of that same manual for some good tips on this.

Sorry about that, there are a couple of versions. In the PDF file, first do a search for "other applications" to get some tips on setting up, and then do a search for "Load data file automatically."
