(ESX-1) Triggering drums with external pads via midi

Hey All,

I would like to program beats on the Electribe ESX-1 and use external drum pads such as two ROLAND PD-8's to trigger additional overlaid bass and snare samples on the ESX via MIDI. I would use a midi convertor between the ESX and the pads such as a Roland TMC-6 or an ALESIS Trigger I/O. Has anyone used an external drum pad to trigger samples on the ESX via MIDI?

Never done it, but I own an Alesis Control Pad that sits in it's box. It has 8 pads, you assign the note #'s and voila it should work. Maybe I'll try it soon...

I use a Roland TD-12 V-drum kit and have it Midi'ed to my ESX. I use the sound engine's in both, mixing them both. The dynamics of the Roland are awesome and the sound engine is awesome, lacking only a user sample engine. As pristine as the sounds are on the Roland, they're almost a little TOO pristine. With the ESX, I have a heavier low-end and a crunchy ass noisey mid-range that, not responding to the dynamics evens out dynamics issues from playing live without crushing them too much. Between the two I have a live drum sound that's just MEAN!
