Connecting to Computer

Post by Mitchinator1 »

Just got my R3 today, and I love it, but I was hoping to be able to connect it to the computer, but for some reason, I can't get it to connect. I have the USB cable from the synth to the computer, and corrently have the headphone jack connected to my line in on my computer to come through the speakers. What am I doing wrong?

Is your computer a headphone? You connect headphones to headphone jacks.

What do you expect the R3 to do that it isn't doing? I can't say what you're doing wrong until you say what isn't working. The R3 does have a manual that shows the basic connection to a computer, and the headphone jack is not involved. If you plug headphones into the R3, turn on the R3, put the headphones on your head, then hit a key, I expect that you'll hear the R3 play just fine, so try that first before trying to hook up the computer.

However, I can guess that you haven't downloaded the latest Korg USB-midi driver, installed it, and then configured whatever software you happen to be using to see the R3. Then you need to follow the manual to hook the proper outputs of the R3 to the computer audio inputs, then configure the software to do something with the audio coming on the input, because the default on the computer is to ignore audio input.

I know that the headphone jack only outputs the sound, I meant so that I could hear it. I was hoping to hook it up tot he computer to use the sound editor that comes with it. I did install the driver from the CD, shouldn't that work?

Hello,

you didn't say which OS you are using. I guess it's windows. The driver from cd works fine on win xp.
Install the driver, which i supose you already did, than instal the midi device form the korg driver. when you plug the R3 on usb it will be shown in the list. Follow carefully the instructions form the instalations manual and everything will be fine.
note that you have to always plug the same korg midi device in the same usb port, because you do the install per usb port.
then setup the sound editor to send and recieve midi messages. you have everything explained in the editors manual.

The drivers on the CD are ALWAYS old. Never use them. Always download the latest drivers. You will save yourself all the trouble of experiencing the bugs that have been fixed in the last several years.

Wow, Thanks a lot for the help tshubiza. Sorry my information wasn't quite clear, but I didn't know I had to install the R3 to the driver. I thought the driver allowed the computer to recognize it. I got it, and it makes editing your sound so much easier. Appreciate it.

Glad you got it working. Yes, the R3 editor is a great feature. That's the only way I edit the R3.
