Kaoss Pad 3 and Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0

Post by phantomoperator »

I am having an issue with using my Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0 with my Korg Kaoss Pad 3.

What I want to do is use my computer/laptop as the sound source that will be received by the Alesis and then recieved from the input on the Kaoss Pad 3 and then outputed to a main monitor source...at the moment it is my Logitech THX certified system that is using a direct source input.

The problem is that it seems to be cracking a lot at peak moments. If I separate the Kaoss pad from the equation then I can max out the volume all I want. But if I plug in the Kaoss between the mix so that I can manipulate the music from my computer I get crackling again.

Is the Kaoss Pad 3 just not up to the task? Can the hardware not accept this much information?

Any ideas?

It's not the KP3's fault if you overload its input, that's your fault. Don't do that. How about turning down the output of the mixer and turning up the volume on the powered speakers? It has nothing to do with how much "information" you send to the KP3. What color is the input level LED? Red? You wanna burn out your input of your innocent KP3? If that LED is Red it's telling you to please stop doing that - it hurts.

I did have a similar problem with my mini-KP. beacause they are designed for DJ related tasks, they seem to be at a different level than standard line-level equipment, more like home gear.

i set the output on my mixer down to -10dB, then boost it back by 10dB afterwards. Thats easy for me because my KP is on a loopback into a channel on the mixer (off the AUX bus). I'm using a Alesis Multimix 12FW btw :)

I guess you just have to turn your amp/speakers up...

X-Trade, thank you for being kind to your miniKP and not blowing it up. It's "be kind to your pet audio gear" month. No gear abuse allowed. Thanks for playing. All those poor, innocent miniKPs, Kaossilators, and KP3s deserve to be treated with care.

Still haven't learned how to use your KP3 yet huh? Maybe you need lessons from a 9 year old. I can't help clear up your confusion and bewilderment, as I'm not a special ed teacher.
