ms2000R power dimming, led's out, buttons out etc!!!

Post by djrain9 »

Seems we scored big when this ms2000r was sitting in the back of a pawn shop marked down to 50$

We noticed a few led's out and the power connection was loose.
also a few buttons were sticking or not working.

still stoked about the deal, I tore in to replace all the 16 buttons..

this went well. Then replaced the power connection thingymabopper..
When unsoldering, it pulled the trace up.. UH OH...

so far these parts were 40$ from a local dealer. the dealer ran some wire in place of the trace and fixed it right up.. only 10$ sweet..

now when the unit is on for 2-8 hours the lights begin to dim and eventually it looses capabilities due to lack of power.

I guess were going to replace the capacitors next to the power input..
(this week) and if that doesn't get it, resolder the power jack.
when it's dim, I can swap the power supply with the known working microkorg supply and the problem persists.. therefore it's not the supply

anyone seen this?
any other ideas?
also does your ms2000r ever so slightly blink the tempo on the key that is pressed?

There is signs of moisture inside on the controller board but nothing to major.

Update 6-15-09 .. new capacitors looked great, nice and bright when we turned it on.... but for only 30 min.. still dimming and slightly blinking.. noticed more chips with green stuff built up on the prongs on the controller board... back to the drawing board.

Any help is appreciated
