do you mean you have unplegged the USB stick *DURING* the upgrade or after that it was finisehd?

in the first case i think you are lucky your M3 still power up correctly. the best think to do is to re-do the upgrade.

if instead you remove the USB pendrive after that ROM has been completely written, the sounds that doesn't work may be the ones using the additional PMC USB-Expansione, i.e. these sounds need samples that are not in ROM, but have to loaded from USB each time you power up the M3. you recognize such program 'cuase their name starts with EX1 or EX2 or EX3 (if i do not remember wrong).

therotically you should have some piano sounds and a whole lot of other string/brass sounds using that additional samples.

the additional PCM expansion are (from http://www.korg.com/Product.aspx?pd=280) :

The Version 2.0 XPanded upgrade also adds four free expansion libraries to the M3. The first three, originally planned as separate M3 options, each contains 128 Mbytes of finely sampled top-ranked instruments, while the fourth is 28.5 Mbytes, bringing you a total of 412 Mbytes of bonus data. The M3 XPanded features two volumes of Brass & Woodwind data, and an enormous 128 Mbyte Grand Piano that is absolutely superb. Last but not least, the original ROM piano has been rereleased as an Expansion Library based on user requests – we listen!

Brass & Woodwinds (EX-USB-PCM01/02)
Derived from the expansive OASYS option library, these sounds were crafted to allow expression, articulation and natural sounding playability. Combined, they offer 128 new programs and 32 new combis ideal for a wide range of musical production – from pop and sweetening to full-out orchestra. All of the solo instrument “ornaments” have been captured as well – trills, falls, growls, staccato notes and more – all adding to the authenticity, especially during solo instrument performances. Each family of instruments includes enough variations for a full instrument range; Flutes, alto flutes, piccolos; trumpet, cornet, piccolo trumpet; clarinet, bass clarinet; etc.

Concert Grand Piano (EX-USB-PCM03)
Studio sampled using a traditional “minimum mic” set-up to preserve the natural stereo imaging, this concert grand has been captured at four dynamic levels, with additional samples for realistic sympathetic string resonance, ensuring a truly superb performance – even for the pedal heavy performer. With 128 Mbytes devoted simply to piano, the samples are long and natural sounding. Six programs and six combinations provide ample variety to work with nearly any musical genre and style.

V1 Stereo Piano (EX-USB-PCM04)
Due to popular demand, we’ve brought back the original 4-way Stereo Piano PCM and Program data that was included in the M3 Version1 system. This 28.5 Mbyte file is not a part of the XPanded update and is only available as a separate download under Support.

The M3 can load one expansion volume at a time. Installing the EXB-M256 memory expansion will allow all four volumes to be loaded simultaneously, and still have over 100 Mbytes available for user sampling.
-----

to load the additional sample, put the EX-USB-PCM files you will find in the Xpanded package in to the USB pendrive, insert pendrive in the M3, go to MEDIA page and select the tab EX-USB-PMC and select which expansion you want to load. you can also choose to autoload this sample, to do this the pendrive shall be inserted before powering up the m3

it's not a new upadte, it's the update you have done installing the Xpanded Package...

that sound are not missing, simply they use samples that are not stored inside the M3's ROM but have to be loaded each time you power up the M3. to load this sample (and so having the piano patches playing) you have to follo the procedures i written before:

to load the additional sample (i.e. the sample you need for having that piano program to play), put the EX-USB-PCM files you will find in the Xpanded package in to the USB pendrive, insert pendrive in the M3, go to MEDIA page, select the tab EX-USB-PMC and select which expansion you want to load. you can also choose to autoload this sample, to do this the pendrive shall be inserted before powering up the m3.

just inserting the USB pendrive is not enough.
