Kaoss Pad 3 Looping Issue

Post by YOBREKCALS »

I just bought a KP3 today and I cant seem to get it to play back samples i record using the built in sounds. I recorded them right i think (hit sample hit the sample button of choice then record) and i am attempting to play them back right (hit the green lit sample bank button) but then the light turns orange like its sposed to but no audio is played back. What am i doing wrong? Thanks

You have to resample, with the shift button, to record built-in sounds or any sounds from existing pads. Sampling records _only_ external audio on the KP3.

So resampling allows u to record the built in audio? But sampling doesnt?

Read page 13 of the manual under the heading Sampling.

The drum patterns & synths are an effect. Maybe you should try it now to find out for yourself.

To record from a mic, you need to sample. To record from the internal sounds, you need to resample. Use headphones to hear what you're doing.

You need to learn how to use all of the following in order to sample from the mic:

[PEAK] indicator
[INPUT SELECT] switch
[INPUT VOLUME] knob
[FX DEPTH] knob
LEVEL slider
[MIC TRIM] knob

To resample, you only need to learn how to use the [FX DEPTH] knob and
LEVEL slider. Choose a drum pattern program. Press the hold button so it is lit. Adjust the FX Depth an Level so that you can hear the drum pattern on the headphones when you press the pad. Now hit [Shift][Sampling] then [pad 1]. When it stops resampling you won't hear much of a difference. That's because it automatically loops the sample and plays it when it finishes. Press the [hold] button to turn off the drum pattern. Press the [pad 1] button to turn off the looped sample. Press [pad 1] again and you'll hear the same pattern looped.

I did everything you said xmlguy, and when i hit the hold button after recording, sound stops. And hitting the sample bank button repeatedly fails to start the loop.

You are hearing the drum pattern on headphones that are connected to the headphone jack on the KP3, right?

Be sure the FX Depth knob is turned all the way to the right.
Be sure the FX Release fader is all the way up.
Change the program to drM1.
Hit the [Hold] button until it is lit, press somewhere on the XY pad until you get a pattern you like.
Adjust the Headphone volume to a comfortable level.
When you press [Shift] (and hold it down when pressing) [Sampling], all the pads blink Orange, right?
Turn the program knob to the right until the display flashes [16].
When you press [Pad A] it Blinks Green and the display flashes [rEc], right?
You wait until the Program button/lights go all the way across, right?
You should still be hearing the drum pattern because the [Hold] button is lit.
Do not press the [Pad A] button before it turns solid Orange.
Now press the [Hold] button to stop the built-in drum pattern.
The [Pad A] should remain solid orange and you should hear the recorded drum loop.

If you don't hear the loop and the [Pad A] button toggles between solid green or solid orange when you press it, and you've done exactly what I've said above, then your KP3 is broken. If at any point the [Pad A] turns red, you are doing something wrong.

thanks so much for all your hard work trying to help me. I did what you said and it didn't work, so I brought it back to guitar center and they replaced it. The new one works just fine THANK GOD.
thanks again

Sometimes it's a relief confirming the hardware is bad, because it means that you were doing everything right and none of the problems were your fault. Glad you're good to go, now! The KP3 is hella fun.
