SID chip style sounds

Post by KevHammer »

Has anybody tried emulating the types of sounds made by a SID chip like the ones in old C64 computers?

SID-Chip Style Sounds on R3

Post by TecRoc »

Hi Kev,

I´ve made one just for fun, just thinkin of those arcade 8 bit video game
sounds from the eighties. I´ve named it (Lord) "SIDious".
It´s like that "giana sisters" sound for the commodore C-64. Here it is:

Nice idea to open a "SID" thread. Hope some other users have done
some "SID" patches too.

Greetingz,
:D :D

Hey TecRoc, I tried the link you supplied and it said that it was no longer valid.

I was quite interested in trying your SID and Organ settings

As always, once I get them I'm sure i'll be impressed :D

hehe oh yes I have :) in fact I am (still) working on some kind of "tracker" with special radias support (well, it's progressing slowly TBH)

special support means that, besides other retro-like features, it allows you to reprogram the voices 50-100 times per second, just like old SID replayers used to "hack" the c64 soundchip regs :)
it also makes it possible to use the 16 drum voices not only for drums (i.e. you can play melodies)
it works only with USB midi because of bandwidth/latency requirements.

here's a (very early! in fact the first..) sound example (it's just one timbre): sid SD

but don't get too excited, the proggy is not ready for release, yet.
..and you will have to be quite tech-savvy to use it in a senseful way :)
