Help with song playback

Okay, I've searched the forums, Param Guide, and internet extensively, and I cannot seem to find an answer to my problem.

When I save my sequencer song to my SD card, if I save it as a MIDI file, when I try to play it back on my Computer, I get some messed up piano only version. I also cannot load it to the sequencer mode to make edits, as it doesn't load correctly.

If I save it as a .SNG however, I am able to load and edit it via the sequencer at later times, but it will not play on my computer.

When I researched .SNG, I found out that a standard program such as Apple Quicktime should be able to play it, however when I try to open it with Quicktime, it says Quicktime cannot understand the file type.

I even tried downloading some MIDI playback software, as my research also said that .SNG files could be played back on most MIDI codecs. This, again, did not work.

I was wondering what programs you guys use, and how you playback your songs on your computer. Thanks in advance.

you have to use GM or GM2 sounds (i.e. program in bank G) if you want that your midi file playback correctly in any MIDI file players. only in this way the instrument associated to each midi channel will be the same in any player (and drums usually shall be on midi channel 10).

if you write a song using non GM/GM2 sounds (i.e. all program not in G bank) when playing the midi file in a standard midi player the instrument that M50 has associated to each midi channel are not mapped correctly to MIDI instruments.

So only sounds recorded from the G bank can be played back on a computer?

MIDI-files doesn't have any sound in them... MIDI is just some computer-commands of when a note is played, how hard it is played, and so on... so when you use GM sounds (General MIDI) any computer nowadays understands that file and can play it.

General MIDI is a format where programs are allways in the same order so when you record a midi sequence with piano-sound it will turn out as a piano-sound on some other piece of equipment.

If you want to use your M50s own (better) sounds you should record audio to your computer by connecting your L/R outputs or Headphone output to your computer line input and then use some program to record.

Precisely.....skip the MIDI file route.
