Radias-R

Post by Rockitman »

I have the M3-73, plus the EXB-Radias and the Radias-R. I am transitioning to using the M3 as my new live main board. I also currently use the MS2000 live, so it is a distinct advantage to having those knobs now under my fingertips rather than in a rack somewhere. Plus the upgrade path for me was another advantage. I easily have converted and loaded my MS2000 patches onto the Radias-R.The M3-73 has a second keyboard to host connector so you can play the Radias-R from the M3's keyboard. I have not tried to access the Radias-R from the sequencer yet. It might seem redundant to have both radias-r and exb radias, but I have found when playing live I can never have enough firepower.
Yes you can use a combi and split the keyboard, and put two sounds up, or put two sounds in a combi on different MIDI channels. It's way better to have three fully powered synth sounds at once. Then there are the modules in my Live rack as well, but that is another matter...

Hi George,

That would be exactly my concern with the RADIAS-R. I know it can be done using MIDI. But it's nowhere near as convenient or easy as programming a Combi to use sounds directly on the EXB-Radias card.

Best regards,
Rob

Don't forget, I also read somewhere that the EXB-Radias has 8 virtual patches instead of the 6 on Radias?
Don't know if anyone can confirm this for me but that is what I read...

I suppose you would use the Radias-R by MIDI just like you would from previous workstations.
I currently use a TR (looking at the M3 or M50 in the near future) and Radias-R and sequence it from my TR.
Although I understand this ties up sequencer tracks, but only the same as the EXB-Radias would.

I assume you can also route KARMA out just like you can with arps on the triton series.

I never realized how much interest this thread would generate, but as a new member and neophyte I am grateful to all the comments. I broke the bank and ordered an M3 with the Radias exb board and the Radias-R from Sweetwater. Cannot wait to see what this combination can do.

Thanks to all.

teluron,
Make sure they send you the extra rack and hinge you will need for installing them next to each other if you bought the 73 or 88 key, the extra cable should be in the M3 box with the manual.

Sweetwater was the only supplier I could find that actually caarried the hinge and extra panel. Thank for the help.

OK, to take my question a step further. Assuming I would then use 2 or 3 tracks up in my sequence for the Radias R, what then would be the advantage? Is it that the Radias R has many more sounds to choose from (that would be a big plus). If so how would turning and twisting all the knobs come into play and for the finished product, would I sample the Radias R to a midi device in order to mix the two together? Right now I do the sample set up for 2 channel stereo to wav file with my 16 tracks. How would I create a wav file from the Radias R for mixing (which I could do on my pc)?
