All Notes Off (cc#123)

Post by X-Trade »

I've been using my Radias-R with an external controller for a time. and a while back I made a post about having problems with the arpeggiator/sseq restarting when i let go of the keys.

having looked into this further, it seems that my Kawai K1mkII seems to transmit 'all notes off cc#123' when all of the keys have been released. This is obviously slightly unusual behaviour but there is also no way to turn it off.
My problem is that this synth makes a brilliant controller and now my Korg TR is also away for repair so it is all I have.

So this isn't entirely a radias issue, but its more than just the K1.
can anyone think of anything I could do on either synth or somehow inbetween (I have a MOTU Midi Time Piece MkII), that would prevent this from happening. just some way to get around it.... anything.

and also, do you believe that the radias should be resetting the arp or step sequencer back to start (but still playing) when an 'all notes off' occurs?

I don't know if this will cause other problems, but couldn't you set a midi filter on the Radias to block cc#123? Not sure if cc#123 needs to be sent other than in a panic type stop request but worth trying :)

The radias midi filter section only allows you to filter out ALL CC#s which is a bit annoying. I can't really do this because that would filter out the modulation wheel from my K1 and aftertouch also.
I suppose I might be able set this up on my MIDI Timepiece, Haven't really got into it yet and I don't actually have it as a part of my rig at the moment (mainly because I havn't figured it out yet).

Isn't there an option to turn all notes off either on or off in the K1 ? I was just poking through the pdf of the manual for the K1m on Kawai's website and it shows two settings in the midi implementation chart, O or X (on or off) for the All notes off aux option. Not sure if the K1 MKII is the same as the K1 or K1M but usually that's found in the global settings area (however you get to it heheh)

I've looked on my K1 and my MTC and both of them offer to block off 'controllers', but not specific cc#s, only all controllers at once :(
same with the radias.
does anyone know of any hardware (preferably, I don't really want to use a computer if i don't have to...) that could be programmed to block out ccs?

This used to happen on my Roland MKB 1000....
All I was able to do was tape the bottom key down and then switch programs so the note off wouldnt get sent to the recieving unit....this works best if it is beyond the range of the Receiving unit....
Time Can be Mastered,
"NOW" is the Password....
Currently running, Hammond M3, Yamaha CS80 + MM6, Roland JX-3P + Mkb 1000 + Vk7 + D110, Alesis Quadrasynth plus, Haken Continuum fingerboard, Korg Radias + Lambda, Ensoniq SQ80, Waldorf Blofeld, Creamware Prodyssey + B4000, Use Audio Plugiator, Arp Axxe ....and some soft synths.

This but at $149 it's more than your K1 is worth

Actually, aftertouch would still pass as it not a CC like the mod wheel.
