Smart media mb

Post by zerocool22 »

How much megabyte does one pattern/song take on youre smartmedia card. This can help me decide what size of smartmedia to buy. If i can store 5-10 patterns on a 8 megabyte smartmedia card why buy one of 128 when i can just copy it with my 8 megabyte smartmedia card onto my laptop.

Thx in advance

Can't tell if you're using EMX or ESX?

You mention saving a single pattern... Don't know how you're working with the electribe, but it's usually daft to just have 1 pattern per saved file.... why not have loads of patterns and full songs on each?

The size of the file on the ESX depends on how big your samples are...
The factory preload is 18,046 KB, and generally I save files up to about 27 meg each, which I have a full song on.

128 meg Smartmedia cards are really cheap now if you buy on the internet. They're dying though, as not many things use them now... so I'd buy a couple... I've also seen a smartcard/CD card adapter... haven't tried it, but it's under £20.

I use a 128 meg card... keep an initial blank file on it, and save my current song + wavs on it....
then transfer to pc and then store all on a 4GB pen drive... all for under £50

hope this helps m8
:)
Cheers

Yeah mate thx. I was using a emx though, i don't know if he stores any sounds or just the file settings of a pattern. But basicly a 64 mb one should do it for me then, i could just save one song. Save it to my laptop and start over again.

that's only going to annoy the s**t out of you. it's like saying I'll have this packet of two cigarettes, and when i've smoked those two, I'll buy another packet of two cigarettes. Really, get a 128mb card, how much more expensive can it be?

note that if you use an xd card and a smartmedia adapter, you cant use cards bigger than 128mb (it's also unclear if smaller cards will work).

or as a much cheaper and easier to find alternative, get a smart media to xd adapter from new egg and get a 128 mb smart media card for 15 bucks. You now have a 20 dollar smart media card analogue and yes you will want 128 mb. It is very useful.
