Would you be willing to share your experiences of both your Pa2x and M3 for use in live performances requiring a one man band? Assume you had to choose between them. What would be the main factors good and bad for each one?
I have a Pa2x as you know, and I just ordered an M3.
Best regards,
Rob
Hi Ron,
In my case if I had to choose only one of them it would be the m3 as I find it sonically more interesting and karma more exciting than the style system.
But ... I don't play for an audience, I mean I don't play (or have to) play specific songs which, depending of the type of music, is probably easier on an arranger.
What I find that is missing on the m3 in a live situation is mainly that you don't have fills or breaks (well, you could create them, but..) and it's not easy to switch voices (again you could program them, then mute/un-mute parts when needed, but it's still not as convenient as the STS or the performances).
Also it's not possible to switch combi in real-time like switching style on the PA. Karma and any other playing sound will stop, and depending of the combi it may take 2-3 seconds until you can play again.
Also it's not possible to transpose in real-time, though sometimes one of the switches is programmed to do so.
The beat indicator is also missing, that's why I always start the style on the PA even if I'm not using it
Now I wouldn't mind a little bit of karma into the pa as the styles are a little too repetitive for my taste, and also lacking punch and life compared to the m3. There are a few sounds like the piano that I prefer on the pa2x, but I find the m3 sounds more interesting. You get also more effects and much better routing on the m3.
Anyway, to summarize I would say that the M3 is more an instrument where karma can interact with what you are really playing, not only based on the current chord.
The PAs are better suited to replace a "real" band, but then again it depends of your style of music and playing.
The pa2x is also better to work as a master keyboard as you have all the buttons needed at your finger tip (splitting, transposition,..). I prefer also the keybed of the pa2x, a little heavier than the m3 (73).
Off course it’s nice to have both
