EMX -> Battery (UPS) experience

Post by AmigaHeretic »

After seeing this thread a while back...
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... ht=battery
... about trying to hook up a battery to EMX and then realizing it was AC input etc etc... I posted about just using my UPS that I already had it hooked up to.

Here is the UPS I'm using, but of course there are hundreds of different types and brands. Looks pretty big and I suppose it is, but it's about 10" by about 8 1/2" (25 cm x 21.5cm):

Just thought I'd give a little update on my experience so far. I've been running with the EMX and a Fender Frontman Guitar amp (8"speaker) plugged into. At first I wasn't sure if would be able to drive amp for very long, but it doesn't have any problem at all.

As far as battery life I'll have to guess a little as I've never run it dead completely. I was using the EMX with the Amp today for example for about 45 minutes and it said I had 79% battery life remaining.

Other times I've used it I've gone for over and hour and still had over 60% of the battery remaining.

It’s been pretty nice to have the EMX outside this summer. So far the only down side has nothing to with the battery at all, but with the lighted keys on the EMX itself. Can be very hard to see which keys are lighted and there for what is going on and what you are doing if you are in direct sunlight. Need to find some shade or bring something to make a little shade so you can tell which keys are lit up.

So, the battery is a little big ( obvious not like some mods some where hoping where you might mount something inside or anything like that), but the plus side is it not only powers your EMX but it will power an AMP too. And it should do so for a couple of hours. No modifications needed to your equipment and you can just plug it in and recharge it anywhere.
Back in my day, we didn't have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we'd have to just shove them together.

cool beans, I've thought about doing this, but with the weight and size, might aswell bring a small quiet generator ;).

They are not too big but they are heavy. Some are heavier then a car battery.

If you just wonna go set up somewhere and play it's a pretty good idea.

It's 195mm x 142mm and only 45mm Wide! Not nearly as much capacity, but if you just wanted run the tribe and not the amp this could be cool. Looks like the only sell it in 220v (I'm in the in the U.S. we're we use 110v so that could be an issue) but that thing is much smaller.
