regarding midi patch bays/hi!

First off I just want to say hi and thanks for maintaining such a great forum, I have read here for a while but haven't been posting until now.

I am posting to ask what you mega-electribe fans use to avoid daisy-chaining too many consoles together? I have been looking at the MIDI Solutions Quadra 4-Output MIDI Thru Box, but it seems very simple and ideally I could get 6 or so outputs.

I should also mention that I want this for playing live and have no desire to connect any of it to my computer.

I use a roland A-880, this is quite old and excellent...it has 8 x 8 matrix that you can configure in any way and then save it to a memory bank than can be recalled when needed

it also could perform midi merge between inputs 1 & 2, this is great to use with a MIDI controller that can´t merge the input data with the generated one

That seems very capable but i was hoping to find something smaller in size. I am still leaning towards the MS Box, i am just worried about quality.
