I am using step edit mode because I want it in time with the drum beat as much as possible. They are single notes, about 10 hits, during the measure, but is there any way to slow down the melody progession as it should be instead of having it play and sounding rushed? What do you mean re-record them at the melody at the right tempo? If you could further explain as I am looking for absolute perfect timing with the drumming progression, but having the melody at the right tempo instead of rushing at the faster drumming tempo.

Sorry man, I'm not understanding you then. If you want the melody slower, you need to put the notes further apart. Are you just entering one note right next to each other in step edit mode? Then you're going to get a fast 1/16th note melody, which may or may not be what you want. For 1/8th notes you need to skip a step in between, etc.

I don't know what your music theory background is, so it's really hard to understand what you're asking. To me it's a simple issue, put the notes only on the steps you want them, does that make sense?

No worries, I apologize for my lack of english words. I am going into step edit, then select step recording. Then, I click record once in step record and hit the notes of the melody that I am planning on playing. Then, I hit stop and it records my notes but plays them extremely fast. How do I play the notes as I planned rhymically and with the proper timing? The notes that select are not right after eachother, but rather played on the step keys as played on keyboards with spaces in between. They just play the notes super fast and do not have the ryhthem that I am looking for, but they are the correct notes although too fast for my liking.

Try it this way, make sure that the keyboard button is lit up first. Then, press play to play your pattern, and then record to put the EMX into record mode. Now you can just play the keboard keys in real time to get the melody you want, and with the timing you want.

IE, like a bass or guitar player, you sometimes need to take time to practice an instrument before you can play it. So keep working on trying to record in real time, and then just use step time to fix the odd note here and there that maybe you made a mistake while recording.

also if your melody can not be played live on the emx (octave jumps, fast runs, etc.) use the rest/tie button

in step record mode you decide the length of the notes using the rest/tie button

lets say you wanted to play 4 quarter notes in a measure, if you where to just hit the four notes in step record mode it would record 4 sixteenth notes

thats not what we want

instead hit the first note and while holding it down hit the rest/tie button 3 times

this extends the length of the note to a quarter note (the first press of the rest/tie makes it an eighth note, 2nd a dotted eighth, 3rd a quarter)

then you would just repeat the process 3 more times with each of the other notes to create the 4 quarter notes in the measure

when not holding down a note the rest/tie button creates a sixteenth rest
