recommend gear/app for sending program changes

Post by fsguzek »

I'd like either a very simple piece of gear or very simple sequencer software that can send program changes to my electribes. I don't want to have to program separate songs on each unit and I don't want to send individual notes either. Just something sturdy and reliable for program changes and timing data.

I know every software DAW on the planet does this, but I need something smaller (that won't tax my tiny laptop) and more appropriate for live action.

Any recommendations?

Would using an Ableton product be overkill?
I'd like something that won't tax my laptop.
My live gear is all hardware (sampler, electribes, drum machines etc.)
I just need something to send program change messages to various MIDI channels.

also, any idea where I might download ableton live lite 4?
I believe it's technically shareware...

yamaha QY-70 send program changes
I think the older and simpler QY-10 does it too
other hardwae sequencers as kawai Q-80 or brother PDC-100...maybe the roland MC-50
or the alesis data disk

The Yamaha sequencers look pretty cool. The only problem is the limited number of songs. It holds 35,000 notes, but only 20 songs. I'm tempted to get one of those new tiny Asus laptops and just dig up a Linux shareware sequencer. All the really important stuff is happening on my other hardware, I just need something to organize and arrange patterns for a pretty large number of songs.

That Yamaha qy-70 does look pretty tasty, though...

check out the behringer fcb1010 midi floor board

i believe you can assign each button to instantaneously transmit 5 program changes on different midi channels when you stomp it.

its designed for live use too
