PCG Files

Post by clydebarrow »

Hello, starting to work with editor and .PCG files.
When I "Import" a pcg file, all my settings, combis or progs are overriden by the incomming ones...
Is there a way to import "only one" combi or prog to a dedicated place from a pcg file?
thanks for helping

Yes, that can be done. When loading the PCG, choose "open". Then choose the program or combi folder and choose open again. You will then see a list of all the programs or combis included in the file. Pick the one you want to load and choose load. A menu will pop up where you can choose exactly where you want to load the sound.

Good Luck!

It will definitely work as described. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "import". You don't have to import anything.

1- Save the PCG file to your USB hard drive or memory stick.

2- Connect your drive or stick to the M3 USB port.

3- Choose "media", find your PCG file and follow the steps in my last post.

That's it!

Ohhhh...I see!

Right....You can't do that with the editor directly. However, you can import one sound at a time as I described and then use the editor to "get selected combo" (or something like that, I'm not in the studio right now). Once you have it in the editor you can save it where ever you like.

Or....you can just import the complete file into the editor and just save the programs/combis that you want to keep in another bank. However, keep in mind that the combis reference the bank that the programs were created in so you start to run into problems when you start moving stuff around.

In Global mode there is a function called "change bank references" which address this issue.

Another point that I should make is that when you import/load a single combi you also have to import/load all the programs that make up that combi. Without the programs the combi is pretty much useless.

Things can get pretty tricky once you start moving stuff around. Best bet is to pick one bank where you want to load everything. Then figure out what programs are in the combis that you want to work with, import the programs first and then import the combis. You will probably have to do some tweaking to the combis to get everything to match up correctly.

If you need any more info just let me know.

Thanks for this old thread.

clydebarrow's original problem hit me too, and I remain confused why this (auto-transmitting to the M3 during PCG import in the M3 Editor) happens. I understand the "workaround", but it seems like a bug to me -- at least in the clarity of the documentation of the editor anyway.

There's only this one sentence description, but it seems implicit that nothing should be transmitted to the M3, and that's intuitively what I'd expect. It seems a bit of a pain to have to put PCGs onto the USB stick and then browse from there, as I have my PCGs on my PC (since they're usually from the Internet). Oh well. :?

"Import
This command loads M3 or M50 PCG data into the editor."

Editor. Not M3.
