Daz wrote:If you have a MIDI track in the sequencer using Program A001 and you edit A001 in Program mode the changes will be heard when you use that Program in the sequencer. However you'll lose the changes when you switch Programs in Program mode or power the instrument down, unless you save the Program. So you'll only be able to use this "trick" with one Program at a time.

There is another problem too with this approach. When you're working with the Oasys with an external sequencer the chances are you'll have local control turned off and you'll be using your sequencer to route MIDI from the Oasys (acting as your master keyboard) through to the appropriate channel in Combi or Sequencer mode where you're using the Program in question. Lets say it's on Channel 5. When you switch into Program mode the instrument instead responds on the Global Channel, so now you have an extra step, as well as switching modes on the Oasys ... you need to change the routing of MIDI through the sequencer to the Global channel or turn on Local Control again. All good fun :-)

Daz.

Thanks Das! You told me everything I needed to know. That means I can use one of my old tricks for the Oasys's sequencer as well.

Yep, but the +2000 views to post like this dont seem to be just a handful uf users
+2000 views doesn't equate to +2000 users. Those +2000 views could just as easily be 20 people checking in 100 times; or 40 people checking in 50 times; or.... I'm one of those KF members who does view the sequencer threads very closely, for a number of reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if many others are in that category as well. So, to reiterate, +2000 views does not mean +2000 users are clamouring for a better sequencer.

I do understand the need for a vastly improved sequencer, and I quite agree that having everything in one system is advantageous for a better work flow. However, as was posted, most of us knew the limitations of the sequencer in the first place, at least those of us who did our homework did before purchasing. My main target was the OASYS sound, KARMA 2, and the amazing control surface and touch screen.

Sure, its the same about the thread below, the 210 views its has could probably be the seme guy visiting his post 50 times a day. Maybe this post its been visited by 2 users 1100 times each, thats why it has 2200 views now, or... :)
Anyway, we are missing the point here, Eric.
What I mean is that a sequencer development is something important for a *big number* of Oasys users and not users alike, just that, as its been noted in different posts by different people in different times, not only this one. Theres no point in continue with this.

Fine, my friend.
Again, different views for diferrente uses.

And about the limitations of the system in first place.
Bear in mind that we have an "Open Architecture" system, as Korg states.
People like you and others requested an FM EXi that didnt came with the system in first place.
So its licit that Daz and others would request futher development of the sequencer capabilities that didnt came with the system in first palce, as well.

Only Korg have an asnwer if its feasible or not to expect it, which will bring back the old disscursion about if the "Openess" is for the whole Oasys areas, as it may be as its software based, or if its only exclusive to EXis, effects and libraries.
Regards.

Hi David,
Yes, your points are valid and I do hope that we eventually see a sequencer worthy of the OASYS - either incrementally or in one fell swoop. If there is a "serious" impediment within OASYS software architecture that restricts the sequencer to it's present state, then I think it is time that such is spelled out and made clear. If improving the sequencer is not one of Korg's projects (current or future), then that needs to be known as well. If these latter are the case, then all those chomping at the bit for a robust OASYS sequencer can realize it just "ain't" coming and get on with purchasing whatever software sequencer fits the bill. I think that would only be fair to those who need to know. Does that sound about right?
Cheers,
Eric

It would really help me in my next purchase (Oasys, or something from another manufacturer) should Korg release a statement on their plans with the sequencer. However, I do not expect Korg to actually tell something unless they are very close to releasing an update to the sequencer. This is the way it has always been; no information on future products / developments. An update that big would really mean Oasys 1.4. Since 1.3. has just been released, it would really surprise me to get a formal statement from Korg on the sequencer this year.

However, I would really appreciate it very, very much if they do. 8)

Let's be clear here. I'm not saying Korg should spell out a road map for the OASYS. We know that is not going to happen. And I agree with the reasoning behind that. I'm just saying that, in referrence to the sequencer, if there is (as I said) a serious impediment to taking the OASYS sequencer to a very much higher level of functioning, then say so. That way, those who need a full blown sequencer with piano roll, micro editing,,,whatever,,,, can go out and purchase one of the recommended software sequencers (or hardware) and get on with it so we can lay this angst to rest....at least for the time being.

I just returned back to my store the OASYS 88 after 5 days testing.. I'm totally upset!

Karma sounds are great, but the whole system concept of the 16 tracks sequencer is all a crappy! For make just some demo song is ok, but if really we must use it for make professional songs, then you can forget all.

I have then connect to my Logic Audio Pro SEQ, with complex song setup and was maxed out of voice, in some midi tracks ( Logic to Oasys) i get to much midi latency to sync the all groove parts togheter with the Logic Seq.

Oasys is just for use for some sounds tracks and not more, then we have to use VST instruments for complete the whole song stage.

Oasys use linux os, why you then will not value to merge inside the Ardour sequencer?
http://ardour.org/
is the best audio/midi Seq that i saw under Linux OS... value to include it or the OASYS will never compete with the good sequencer.
For more than 7000 Euro for this keyboard korg have to offer much more, including 1 ( ONE) external monitor for editing with the mouse and network feature!

Gamper,
Sorry, you just threw out the BABY with the bath water. If you think the OASYS is only good for demos, you really have missed the whole by focussing on one part. In other words, you have failed to perceive the OASYS GESTALT.
