Issue Formatting External Hard Drive

Post by Brassclass »

I purchased a Glyph 3 TB external hard drive for additional storage and trying to format it. I chose Fat32 and Full Format. It's been running all day, screen shows "Now Formatting" but 0% complete. I understand that a Full Format on 3TB will take a while but was expecting to see some complete. Any suggestions on what's going on and what I can do? All comments appreciated!

Use your computer to format the FAT 32. Your Kronos should read it. I haven't tried that big of a drive with the Kronos. I use a 128 gig USB stick to back stuff up on.

FAT32 will only format up to 2TB drives on most operating systems, 8TB or 16TB is possible under special situations and extra software support via operating systems or drivers.

You will need to format the drive to exFAT or NTFS. This will also allow you to break the FAT32 file size limit of 4GB.

Good to know. Does the Kronos recognize exFAT?

Sorry just saw your post, yes it reads and writes to exFAT USB sticks I have no problems and I'm sure in the format menu on the Kronos exFAT is one of the options.. from memory. But I know for a fact formatted on a windows pc to exFAT it reads them fine as I always format large USB sticks to exFAT to make them usable on more of my devices that refuse NTFS.

Just FAT16 and FAT32 on my unit, which is why I asked.
