Hi all! I have been trying to make a new sound with the MOSS board using oscillator Cross Mode.
I can use Osc1 Sub or noise as a modulator and get interesting sidebands when I retune osc2 or adjust cross depth.
But when I use Filter1, all I get is pseudo filter self oscillation with non tempered pitches up and down the keys...
Pl help, what am I doing wrong?
Osc1 Std, wf any
Osc2 Mod, carrier any, depth 0-99
Modulator filter1 lp
Adjust coarse fine tune xdepth filter cutoff, same effect...

So if Osc1, Osc2 and Sub are all being routed to Filter1, and Amp1 is turned up, then of course you're going to get some unduly feedbacked/pitched sounds especially if they're then all summed with the output of Filter/Amp2.
What I've tended to do in the past is switch the Filters to Parallel, in order to split them and allow them to be used independently of each other. Then I'll route Osc2 or Noise to Filter2, and then terminate the Amp2 level so you don't hear Filter2 at all. I'll then use Filter2 as the modulator for CrossMod or VPM on Osc1, and route the resultant output of Osc1 to Filter1 on the Mixer, and then send this to Amp1, this time with its volume turned up, so you can hear it.
One example I made a long time ago using the VPM (FM) model:

I should say, in this case, I was using Noise to modulate the frequency of Osc1 (VPM). Used subtly, it creates an 'airy' sound that is impossible to achieve via other means - the technique was used in Trance in the early 2000's. But it should serve as a rough example of using one of the filters as a carrier for another oscillator (VPM in this case). Seems the thread in which I originally posted this has long been pruned, but the basic routing should give you an idea.
Regards non-tempered pitches up and down, sounds like some settings may be askew, but you can always 'tune' the filter by manually calibrating the filter's keyfollow settings, maybe using an EG if it's non-linear.
