ESX1 does not boot - but flashes

Post by jmP »

Hello everybody,

I'm desperate.

When I switch on my Electribe ESX1, it does not boot but flashes.

At the beginning it flashes quickly, then pause, then slowly.

The following buttons flash:

Display
Drum Part 6b and 7a
Pattern 7,8 and 15,16
Slice button
Audion in button

It does not go into test mode either.

Does anyone have an idea?

Also booting from a Smart Media Card with a new OS doesnt work.

The Electribe doesn't even notice that a card is inserted.

It just flashes ...

Have you checked the internal fuse?

Here's some links I found when my EMX died...

My EMX stopped working just lit up when switched on. I found and checked the fuse but it seemed ok. Just sent it to Korg for repair.

Currently, as of 6th Dec 2020, in UK, it costs...
1. £18.42 cost of postage to get the unit there. This was with tracking so you know it gets there.
2. £36 for initial inspection. Refundable if you choose to go ahead with the repair. First you need to create a Korg account on their website so they can give you a link that allows you to purchase this.
3. £72 per hour repair charge. Though I've been advised that once the fault is found, the repair usually is completed within the hour.
4. £36 return postage.

Good luck...

I checked and bridged the internal fuse.

Unfortunately no success.

The display is blank and lights up and flashes. As well as the other buttons (see above)

Argggghhhh

The trouble is that they put too small a fuse in early units. Korg then over compensated by doubling the fuse rating. This basically means the unit is unprotected against spikes as the fuse is meant to be the weakest link in the circuit. But due to the increased fuse rating, it no longer is.

I got my EMX back fully working. They charged me £174.84 for the repair. Which was a new board due to the CPU being fried, yet this was their fault due to having an incorrect fuse rating in these units!

Good luck, hope you get it fixed!
