Hello members,
I have the same issue also. Since no one can offer a safe solution to an expensive piece of equipment, I have approached CMI Music & Audio who look after customer support and warranty claims for Korg products here in Australia. When I get a response, I'll post it. |

This failed plastic rubber compound that exists in Pa3X joystick box and screen frame , degrades over time , since in fact it is oxidized
especially in a surplus of humidity environment.
This called "dirty", is actually released carbon residue after oxygen reaction with this compound , it can be somehow cleaned rubbing
surfaces with a 100% cotton cloth using 98% clean alcohol , but soon this will be recreated.
All Pa3X users will see that happening over time ...
The probably Chinese manufacturer of this , tried to clone the synthetic rubber area of expensive devices like laptop's control panel ,
but the chemical compound has totally failed to maintain it's properties over time , I'm afraid that plastic holder of keys in keybed
will reveal similar issues shortly ... _________________ Music Conductor - Sound Engineer & Developer - Automotive SMPS/RF R&D - Electronics Engineer

Hi Antony,
Sorry don’t quite understand what you mean, will it make it unplayable, or just another sticky surface problem.
I tried alcohol after it happened, right at the beginning, it just smudged the plastic and started to remove the labels. Gave up and just put up with it.
Thank you for letting us know. _________________ best wishes

It felt like the exterior of the radio was melting. I telephoned Grundig and he said a number of customers were calling in with the same problem. He said to use the product Purple Power (available in any store) to "clean" it and that will solve the problem. I haven't done it yet but will eventually give it a shot. |
I cleaned my radio (only one side of it) with the "Purple Power" cleaner yesterday. All of the "stickiness" came off and the panel I cleaned is now smooth as silk. WARNING: It may leave streaking. I don't know. I did a quickie clean. The stickie came off but I have slight streaks. I'm going to do another panel of the radio very carefully this time and see if I can avoid the streaks. |

Hi Marcus,
What type of product is purple power. I don’t think we have that product here. _________________ best wishes

Thank you Marcus,
Unfortunately don’t have Walmart in Australia, but might be able to get it thru Amazon. How did you go with the other side, or did you still get streaks?
One of the products I used slight distorted the plastic on mine, bit of a smudgy look. Don’t remember which one it was. Unfortunately mine happened in March last year, and I don’t think there was much info around on what to do. Trial and error.
Thank you. _________________ best wishes

I'm going to do the rest of the radio very slowly and when I have time to concentrate. I looked again at the panel I did and it feels like new again. AND...the streaking is not as bad as I thought. It's an expensive radio. I'm surprised I had this "sticky" problem with it. I'll let you know how it eventually works out. |

That would be great, thank you Marcus. I had it happen to an external USB sound card, that was stored in a cupboard a couple of years back. Thought something sticky had spilt on it. What a dummy. Haha. Still sticky, still works. _________________ best wishes

a bit of a surprise for me....I went to the Walmart to buy another bottle of Purple Power and I found it, NOT in the household items section, but in the automotive sections. It's an "industrial" cleaner....directions say things like "don't get it on your skin." No wonder it took the "sticky" right off.
I'll be very careful doing my radio, and I'll see if I can do it "cleanly"....no streaking. |

Hi Marcus,
It’s a degreaser, designed to get grease off machinery, concrete drive ways , pretty heavy duty. _________________ best wishes

It's been a while guys , nice to be back . I fixed the sticky plastic panels and buttons using a car product intended for restoring plastic trim . I used Meguiars ultimate protectant , but I guess other similar products would work . I applied it to the sticky areas, left it overnight and then wiped clean with a cloth . No more sticky stuff , just a smooth shines surface . Hope that helps . _________________ Steve M
