The only DJs I want to see scratching, are the ones who've got Hives.
But I did like the VR tech stuff. _________________ Synth DIY Projects |

I dont mind what a dj does.
If there is an audience for it, more power to em.
But i do laugh internally when i hear a dj say that he or she is a musician.
A dj is someone who doesnt have real musical talent.
A musician wannabe at best. |

I also wouldn't call the common house or pop DJ a musician.
But by learning more about DJs like Rob Swift
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Swift
and their contribution to modern music, by documentaries and other infos, I have come to the conclusion, that there are some musicians among DJs - and by the way some of them are simply gigging along as integral parts of bands with musicians in the classical sense. _________________ Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5 |

I know i painted this subject with a broad brush.
I do think there are some DJs who have musical skills. |

I have really never gave this subject much thought.
But the more i think about it.
An average working DJ still has to
have a sense of timing and rhythm.
To some degree, even a DJ that just scratches and spins records is a musician. |

Have to agree with jimknopf on this one. As conventional a synthesist and keyboard player as I am, I'm regularly humbled back into the obscurity I live in ( )by the sheer quality of some top DJ / EDM work.
Surely DJ'ing in its current form is THE example of technology enabling those without traditional instrument skills to still be able to express the musical ideas and concepts within them - and on that front you can find DJ's, EDM artists, mashup-artists, Push performers and so on who are off the scale, talent wise, on a part with the best composers and performers from classical to jazz. |

Turntablism, as a musical medium, I find is a valid form of musical expression. Not my personal favorite type of music but it has value in my estimation. _________________ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=807494
