|
|
The iKaossilator is more fun than I could have imagined, and I'm in the process of figuring out how to make a complete song. There must be folks out there that are already doing this, would you be willing to share some tips with those of us that are just starting out? Anything that would accelerate the learning curve would be appreciated.
Thanks, John |

The way I generally use the iK is as a rhythm unit and connect it to my tribes. So I'll set up a few beats and maybe a synth riff or two and have that playing. Then maybe do a little improv as I see fit.
But as a standalone device? I have 2 ipod touches, and on each I've deleted all the presets, then use the loop list almost like ableton, vis a vis 'scenes'. So, you can add some variety by recording a drum loop, then a few variations or insert a fill. Then record a few bass progressions - one for verse, chorus, breakdown, etc. Likewise with the lead and chord programs. Also, don't forget to mute/solo as necessary, and using the flex play feature will greatly assist with breakdowns and changeups.
Hope that helps! |

Thanks for your reply Roblabs. Deleting the presets makes sense, cleans things up so it's easier to keep track of your work. I probably wouldn't have thought to do that.
Thanks again,

There are some people who use ikaoss only.
Check out my stuff and ikaoss group.

I've managed to make 8 full length songs. A neat trick is to drop the bpm to anywhere from 26 to 40 bpm.it allows for a groovy echo. Effect and It broadens the actual amounts of beats allowed within the selection. Also I never use the actual drum sets unless I intend to use 2/16 of a sound. I'll post some of my later on my sound cloud. |

Ok, so making a full song isn't hard. You make an intro, you tap 'save'. You make part 2, tap save. Make a breakdown, tap save and so on.
Then use live recording and trigger the parts in the proper order. |
