Coming back to Korg...

Post by 7zark7 »

Hello Korg community!

I am a longtime electronic instrument noodler. I don't perform, I rarely finish tracks, I can't play an instrument, but I derive great joy out of messing around with synths, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, grooveboxes, both hardware and software. I am 44 years old and I bought my first synth when I was 12 years old. I saved, and saved my paper route money until I could afford the excellent and totally affordable (new at the time) Korg Poly 800. So, my first synth was a Korg. I later sold it and bought a Korg Poly 800 II and a Roland Juno-106. I have been through a rather long list of hardware and software since. Over the last decade, I had become extremely comfortable and proficient with my software solution. If you ask, I'll tell you. When I found out that the project and development had been dropped, I was disappointed. I will likely continue to use it until it no longer works on future windows systems, but I am considering alternatives. Back to that later

Anyway, I found someone willing to do a straight trade of a mint Korg MS20 Mini for my Quasimidi 309. I hadn't used the 309 in a while, and I was missing the Sequential Circuits Pro One that I had sold a year previous. So it was a perfect deal and brought me back around to the Korg sound. I found a deal on an SQ-1, and connected it up to my new MS20 Mini, and then I was finding all kinds of new inspiration from working with hardware again. Soooo, I bought the new Electribe Sampler! Awesome! It's fun! I forgot! I mean, I like making tunes in my software solution, but now I'm actually playing my compositions again. Loads of fun!

Please point me in the direction of any MS20/SQ1/Electribe Sampler resources, forums, etc.

Oh, and back to the software thing... Electribe Sampler came with Live 9 Lite. I am going to need some help if I am going to transition away from my current solution to Ableton. The two are extremely different.

That's it for now.
Cheers!

tap, tap, tap...

Is this thing on?

Just kidding...I just noticed 34 views and not a single "hello", "welcome", or "why don't you just try Google for resources?".

oh well.

Hi from Birmingham UK. Welcome to planet Korg. if you are enjoying MS20 you would love a KRONOS check out the size of that forum section. Every time I switch mine on I feel like a kid raiding the sweet shop. I know they are expensive but maybe a bargain KRONOS 1 61 might come along.
'Rarely finish tracks?' I bet everyone on here has an ever expanding list of unfinished projects and mine is just silly - hence sitting in bed lurking on here instead of sweating over a hot keyboard.
Richard Thomas. In order of appearance:
Roland HP1700, Roland SC55, Bohemia Acoustic, Alesis QS8, RME Babyface, REAPER, Kronos 2-88, RME Digiface USB.
Given up trying to play them, now I just play with them.
