KRONOS How to use USB internet adapter & a crossover cab

Post by HGN »

I already saw an excellent post about setting up a wifi internet connection for a Kronos.

I do not require the wifi feature.

Tony (Tmatos75) already configure his with crossover cable. Unfortunately there is no IP and other configuration details.

I already have a crossover cable and the Trendnet TU2-ET100, I hope Tony or someone could post the internet setting (IP, Gateway, etc...). No need to have a video.

Many thanks in advance.

This is hjow I have mine set up
I have a laptop with an internal wireless connection, and an ethernet connection.
I have the wireless connection configured using DHCP so it operates on my homes wireless network.

I set a static IP on the internal connection to an entirely different subnet, in my case 10.0.0.1, and the mask to 255.255.255.0, I did not set the default router.

On the Kronos I set it to a static IP of 10.0.0.2, mask 255.255.255.0 and the router to the ip address of the laptop, 10.0.0.1.

THe Kronos display will NOT indicate connected until you plug the cable in between it and th PC, once plugged in , the connection establishes.

I am using a straight thru cable, and not a crossover.

I use WS-FTP for the ftp program, snice filezilla had so much walware embedded in its install package.

Crossover cables are unnecessary nowadays, modern ethernet devices are auto switching.
I believe you need to simply check the Kronos network settings, set it to DHCP and look at the host address. Then FTP in with an FTP program. FTP Commander has a small and free version.

If you're not using some sort of external DHCP provider (like a home internet router), the DHCP option will not work. If the intention is to run a cable straight between a laptop and the Kronos, you will need to set static IPs/masks in the same subnet as musicman2011 indicated.

Oh really? I thought the Kronos worked as DHCP server? I've never done it though! Static should definitely work if DHCP doesn't.

I don't believe so (at least I've never seen it). It would be bad juju to do that, though if someone were to plop it onto a network with an existing DHCP server. There's not enough options in the gui to define one, anyway.

On a side note, I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet, but if you happen to plug in the ethernet adapter while the Kronos is running, it will not connect to the network (I do this all the time because I forget to plug it in before I power it on). However, if you toggle between DHCP and static (and back), it re-initializes the adapter and it'll then connect to the network.

Continuing on the side note,a question to ask,if I may.

I've recently set up the ethernet and have it plugged in all the time...

Is this ok to do so ?

Using Cyberduck app for data transfer whenever I need to etc.

Thanks.

KRONOS How to use USB internet adapter & a crossover cab

Post by HGN »

Thank to all for helping me configure the connection between my laptop and my Kronos! :3dcool:

Using a normal (not crossover) LAN cable and static IP address 10.10.10.1 (Kronos) and 10.10.10.2. (laptop), by following your instructions, I got the LAN connection between them at the first attempt.

Many thanks!
