Can't connect to editor/computer

Post by swansonpd »

Hi all,

Forgive me if this is addressed elsewhere, but this is my first post.

I bought my Korg SV-1 about 2 two years ago as a display model, and therefore didn't receive everything in the actual packaging. I downloaded all the software from the Korg website, including the editor and some new sound packs, but I can't get my piano to connect to download/transmit anything. I'm using a standard USB cable to connect directly from the piano to my laptop, but nothing. I'm not sure if I'm missing something that should have come with the piano when I bought it or if I don't have the proper software or drivers installed. Please help!

Thank you!

As a first point of call, I would make sure you have installed the Korg Sv1 driver on to your laptop. When you look at the Sv1 editor program in your laptop it should be there with the editor and manual. Think it just says 'install driver'

Editor doesn't work unless this is done first.

I'm having the same issue. I have installed the driver, but the Sound Editor does not recognize the SV1 on my Mac. Even the process that is supposed to mount the SV1 on the desktop (to install firmware updates) does not work, the SV1 never shows up. The utility MIDI Monitor also does not recognize any data coming in when I strike keys. Connecting the same USB cable to another keyboard nearby works fine, so the cable is good. Is there anything else to try? Is there anything more to installing the driver than simply running the installer? I did try rebooting after installing the driver, just in case that might make a difference, it didn't.

Edit: When I run "Audio MIDI Setup" on the Mac, not only doesn't the SV1 show up when I plug it in, but there's not even a dimmed icon (as there is for other installed items that are not currently connected), so does that indicate that the driver did not install correctly?

Editor compatible with latest Mac OS?

Post by Ignatius_Gerumpany »

Does anyone know if the SV-1 editor is compatible with the latest Mac OS?

I fear it is not, and this could the problem you guys are encountering.

One gets the sense that Korg wishes it had never made the SV-1 for one of the very reasons that we all bought it - the quality it provides at an amazing price point.

But there is a sound of crickets - no updates, no upgrades, and this could be what you guys are encountering.

I don't know, and I considered that possibility... so I also tried it from an older Mac with older OS, and it still isn't working. So maybe the editor/driver work with the latest OS, maybe not, but either way, it doesn't explain my problem. I'm wondering if I have a bad USB port in my SV1.
