Awaiting my SV-173

Post by skatsikas »

Greetings folks! Looking forward to joining everyone WITH the keyboard, but just getting a head start on things by reading up on everyone's experiences with the SV-1. Just bought a used SV-173 and am awaiting delivery. I bought the board as a "gigging" keyboard (My motif XS8 is a backbreaker).

Curious about online resources you all reccommend. Also, wondering if I should jump into the new sounds that Korg released or start with the stock ones.

I am taking a chance here since I haven't played one live and only seen the demos online. I understand there are some reliability issues, but forums also tend to make it seem like those issues are more prevalent than they are.

Store it on the level

Post by Ignatius_Gerumpany »

Hey, Steve. I bet you will love your SV-1. Of all the advice I have received, it seems essential that you keep the keyboard on the level, never store it and try avoid transporting it tipped on end. I am told that results in stuck keys and other problems.

As for the sounds, the pianos are killer, including a nice Rhodes sound. I grew frustrated with the lack of draw bar controls on the Hammond sounds, and got myself a Nord Electro 2 rack, which I drive with the SV-1, hitting the "Local Off" button.

That said, the Farfisa and Vox combo organ sounds are wonderful on the SV-1. While I have heard some complaints about the feel of the keyboard, I love it. I hope you do, too.

Welcome aboard.

Use the sound packs. The user interface is pretty easy, just play with it for awhile. The keys are weighted and you can change the touch to soft. I just wish it had more synth type sounds, drawbar (external is ok too) and more fav buttons. enjoy
