Hanging Note Problem!

Hey guys,
So Im trying to use my kronos as a controller for Kontakt, But Im having a problem. If I hold a note while Im chaging patch the note will not turn off.
I know what the problem is but cant figure out how to fix it.
Using midi monitor I can see when I press a key, in this particular patch Im getting a note on for midi channel 1,7 and 8 but when I change patch IM only getting note off for channel 1? So 7 and 8 are left hanging? How I can get the sound to behave like the interal kronos ones where if I hold over the patch change they will still release?

oh and by the way, in Kontakt, I have 8 instruments open that are assigned a midi channel each, but not assigned to any program change... in case that matters!

You should only be getting messages on the global midi channel, not 3 at a time. Is it looping through software and re-channelizing?

Hey, I am purposely sending more than one midi channel so I can have a few instruments open in kontakt to use as I need! The problem is when I move to another program that doesnt have the same midi channels on the notes will hang if I held anything during patch change....

Maybe I am missing something here. But how can you expect anything different?
If you send a note on.... hold it.. change programs to something that doesn't contain that midi channel and then let go. How would a note off ever get there?
Logically the midi channel is not open to send the note off - not sure why you think it would work any other way.

I expect it because its what the kronos does internally with the smooth change feature, I would have expected this to transfer over to midi implementation... it doesnt seem that complicated...

It isn't that complicated, which is why it isn't doing what you expect. The Kronos is merely sending note on and note off information. What the other instrument does with that information, the Kronos has no control over. MIDI doesn't add a feature to an instrument that isn't already there.

It isn't complicated - if you have shut off the path that is needed to send the message, it doesn't matter what the Kronos does it can't get through.
It is like hanging up the phone and wondering why they can't hear you talk anymore.

I understand what your saying, but I still think that the external midi should behave the same way as internal sounds, does anyone have asolution for what im after?

if you are external MIDI does not recognize smooth sound transition (SST) then it will probably never happen. I believe that is something specific to the Kronos. You'll probably have to look at a Kontact to figure it out. see if you can find a Kontact forum.

ShaneFF..
You may have already set up all the midi parts on the Kronos as they should be,but have a look at the midi filter settings just incase there's an active filter being applied.
Not sure if you're using combie or sequence mode..... although both should work, perhaps the latter would be a better method to use especially whenever these snags
crop up.
Also check if the int, ext, or ex2 settings are correct and/or bth in sequencer mode.
(Have a look at page 505 parameter guide which shows a chart for sequencer mode etc).
It would appear that there could be a setting in Kontact that needs further investigation as well.....sorry,can't help you further with that.
Difficult to offer better advice remotely as we don't have all the details of what's actually being done at the time regarding your problem,(which is fair enough to begin with,of course, how much info to provide initially can be tricky etc) and the settings involved.
It's tempting to write all about midi theory workings etc,in an attempt to help, but I'm sure it's not what you need to read at the moment.....so I won't

.
Best Wishes.

Well you never said what the solution is your looking for, only that you expect to send note-off on a closed channel after you change the patch.
First, why are you changing the patch? I assume in your scenario you have sounds playing on channels 1,7,8 in the original patch and you are turning 7&8 off in the second patch. Are you trying to keep the same channel 1 sound and have 7&8 not play anymore? Or something else?

Ok so the entire scenario is this,
Im about to play a musical that has some pretty big patch demands. Its mainly strings but mixed up with a bunch of other stuff, the musical director has specifically asked for the most realistic strings I can get.
So the best library I have of strings is Native instruments Session Strings. The problem is that If I use mainstage and have it a patch to match every patch on the kronos It cant handle the the amount of memory needed. (because Im opening so many instances of kontkat)
So I though it would be a good ideal to assign each atriculation (of which there is 8 ) Each to a midi channel that I could use at will from the kronos, but thats not working because of when Im changing patches as we have discussed the notes dont get released....

It's been a while since I've used Mainstage but I'm pretty sure you can create a global instrument or session instrument or whatever, so that you don't need to load Kontakt individually for each patch. If not, that would be a pretty retarded oversight.
