Hi all,
This probably classifies as a noob question, but I'm trying to figure out if I may have damaged the MS-20mini by running it into an input that had phantom power on.
I've been recording it straight into an Edirol UA-25 audio interface using what I believe to be a standard, unbalanced guitar cable (plus 1/8" to 1/4' adapter at the synth's output). I can't say for sure, but I wonder if I may have accidentally left the phantom power on the Edirol while the synth was plugged in. I didn't notice anything drastic at the time, but who knows how long the power was on for. Here's some vague, possibly-paranoid symptoms:
1) On many settings involving a low octave and a higher octave together (say, 32' and 8'), there seems to be a threshold (the lowest few notes on the keyboard) at which point the lower octave is totally choked out by the higher octave. In other words, there's a point on the keyboard where notes that should sound lower (and presumably just as rich and bass-y) progressively lose their rich oomph and actually end up being dominated by the thinner, higher octave. Is this normal?
2) As a result of 1), I've convinced myself that some of the parameters are just less sensitive or dynamic than they were a month ago. I have absolutely no way to quantify this or explain it in any objective way.
Yes, this is what a hypochondriac sounds like. Am I just paranoid or does this sound like something in the synth has been fried? Is there any kind of test I can do to assure myself? Sincere thanks to anyone who thinks they can help.
Eric
P.S. Needless to say, I will do research and get a mixer or DI box ASAP. But I'd like to know it's okay before I get back to playing this sweet thing.
Phantom Power damage?
