a) my rumor sources have proved completely wrong

b) I fail to understand the introduction of the MoXF besides the good old Motif, meanwhile in the XF generation.

Can Yamaha managers even spell the word "innovation" any more? The Motif OS update offers a fraction of what has been delivered for the Kronos so far.

I read through Yamaha's corporate report last year (almost completely) and it was blatantly clear from it that there is absolutely no cognitive awareness of synth / electronic music in the "space" we're in.

there is no hint, not a whiff, of any investment or strategy in synthesis, ever.

You can COMPLETELY forget it for about a generation.

Pretty Sucktastic indeed. They are now OFFICIALLY "Behind".

Even Roland's Entry level FA series is more interesting!

I'm not sure how anybody can better the Kronos. I don't class myself as a "fanboy" but, even though the technology can be considered "old" Korg did a great job with it.

...But I still dream of having a Monopoly EXi.

No other manufacturer has come close to what the Kronos can do - although if the FA-06 had a full Integra soundset/engine, I would have ditched my ailing Fantom at the drop of a hat!

I have been using the kronos 73 for over 1 year now and I really love it.
I had the luck to get a motif xf7 last week for a great deal, I was curious and got it.
Initially I was completely deluded, the piano sounds crap compared to the Kronos, the OS is complicated, not user friendly at all, the sequencer is pretty much midi, very limited with the audio.
I have been played with it for a week or so and jeez folks, the sounds are amazing in the motif, mainly the acoustic ones like strings, brass, sax, and I think it's a perfect complement to the kronos.
I was thinking to sell it because I already have a kronos and a V-Synth GT but now I'm really reclutant to do it.

Personally i tend to agree with you that i do prefer the Yamaha Brass and Wood sounds over Korg... But i guess that says more about our personal preference then about the actuall sample quallity..

However, Brass and Wood are still the weakest part of the Kronos... mainly because there is no specific engine for them... and the HD-1 engine does not support DNC (which still borks me.. why did they never add DNC to the HD1 engine?)

But then, any instrument needs room for improvement

That's the thing about Roland this past decade. They put in just enough to make it "interesting", but not ENOUGH to make you actually want to BUY it!

The strength of Motif is their sampling. Nobody does this better than Yamaha. For a vast majority of players its all about great bread & butter sounds, ease of use, backward compatiblity of patches and proven reliability on the road. This is the key to Yamaha's continued success.

Well, it seems the Motif XF has just been disclosed as the 2014 Sound-On-Sound winner for best keyboard/synthesizer (as voted by readers). I wonder what placement the Kronos was.

i do not trust thouse fake awards anymore.
I will not be supprised if yamaha bribed this magazine for this award or yamaha used a dirty trick with hackers to creat many fake virtual user accounts in the internet in order to vote for their own motif xf...

It is clear that Kronos is miles better then motif xf, but there are even better solutions then Kronos.

Err, it was the readers who voted. Furthermore, you clearly do not know nor have ever heard of Sound On Sound, so your insinuations are ridiculous.

Well, then you can only ask what's wrong with the readers of SOS.
The Motif XF is no bad keyboard, but "synth of the year for a stone old Motif with extra Flash RAM"? Nice joke...
