Kronos X and Logic Pro Setup

Post by joeydiamondz »

Hey guys, I am new to the Korg Kronos and i basically produced all of my beats on logic with a usb axiom midi board, but now that i upgraded to the kronos few things are difficult for me. I plugged my kronos with the midi wires and usb wire just in case, and it appears on the computer. When i open and audio track in logic and record enable it, I can hear the playback of the kronos. But when I open a midi track, and select KRONOS SOUND for the Port selection NO SOUND PLAYS BACK. I see that it recieves signal when i press the notes, but no sound. I hit record and it records the keys i play and you can see them on the piano roll, but it just has no sound. And the worst part, I can record using an audio track, but when I finished recording it comes out all distorted and off beat. I just want to figure how i can use it through the midi track and not have it sounding like its off beat. PLEASE I NEED HELP WITH THIS REAL BAD, thank you so much in advance!!

Seriously ?

Ed has a signature at the bottom of his messages. Click on it and it takes you to his YT channel. Then, watch the videos he's put there talking about Kronos and Logic.

Yes i still am not able to understand why i cannot get my Kronos X playing on Logic Pro? I am able to find the Kronos on the Audio MIDI Setup, and i can use it as a controller for the Software Instrument track. I also can hear the Kronos being played when i choose to open the Audio track option, and click on the record enable, there I can hear the kronos on the playback and then it starts to buffer and lag on me which is strange. But to get to the MAIN POINT, i want to use the sounds the Kronos has but at the same time use Logic's controls to edit on the Piano Roll, etc. I select an External Midi track, and then I change the Port option to KRONOS SOUND, and when i try to play the KRONOS, the computer READS it by flashing the little indicator light and telling me the notes its playing BUT i dont hear ANY playback from the Kronos' sounds nor the logic instruments. I hope you guys can help me, I just got the Kronos and I need to use it for Logic, thank you guys so much.

Hello, and basically the problem is, my kronos' internal sounds arent playing via external midi in logic. i only can hear playback from the kronos if i open an audio track and click record enable. BUT i cannot play/record/hear my kronos thru external midi, i basically want to edit my kronos' internal sounds thru logics piano roll and what not, but sadly i am not able to. Is there anyway to resolve this? Do i need to upload the kronos sounds patch from the cds into logic in order for it to play?

Well you cant upload the kronos sounds. I guess the question here is how you have the audio out connected to mixer/computer/speakers - It sounds like you have the audio only going into the computer to Logic. If that is the case, you would need an audio track to hear it.
I don't really know enough about your setup to say much more than that.

do you have your kronos hooked up by usb, midi in/out, or both? cuz i have both of them hooked up, usb to computer and midi to my interface which controls the monitors audio. Maybe i shouldnt have both of them plugged in?

You don't need both - the audio and midi can go over the USB cable.

Bit of a typo there maybe, probably should be : "You don't need both - the audio and midi can go over the USB cable"

The problem in simple words:

I have connected my Kronos via USB to the mac. I oppened Audio Midi Setup and made an aggregate device. Kronos is appeared as a midi device either.

I opened Logic express 9 . Set the audio as you mentioned in your video and opened a new audio track. pressed the rec button and I can hear the sound of my Kronos via mac and thats all good.

However when I open a new track as an external MIDI and change the port to Kronos (Following your video) clicked on rec button but NO SOUND !

when I start recording, it is recorded but nothing heard.

Thanks a lot for your help

Sounds like you only have your Kronos connected via USB to your mac for audio. The difference in my setup (that I mention in the video) I have my Kronos going to an audio mixer as well, so I can send the signal around the studio as needed.

If you think through what is going on if you have your audiio only on USB: Logic is capturing all audio coming into the computer but, you have not set anything up to allow that audio to be heard.

This is no different than if you had a microphone plugged into your mac. If you haven't armed an audio track to hear it, then nothing happens when you hit record in Logic.

The easy way to make this work is to create an audio track that is dedicated to the Kronos audio and monitor that while you record midi.

The more complicated way, but the way that will give you the most flexibility, is to route your audio to another device that can become an aggregate audio device. This would allow you to route the audio to Logic or directly to speakers or headphones to monitor while you record.
