Is PCG Tools fine with 2.1?

Post by shaneblyth »

I assume PCG Tools is fine with 2.1?
Ive never actually used it.
I assume I can use it to pull the new sounds for the CX3 out of the new sounds PCG from Korg and replace the originals sounds (I don't want to loose or much up my custom combo's and program files I have modified)
Thanks

Try this:

1 Copy PRELOAD_V2.PCG to your USB thumb drive and insert in Kronos.

2 Go to DISK mode on Kronos and select File and Load tabs.

3 Find the thumb drive from the Drive Select menu and select PRELOAD_V2.PCG from the file list.

4 Hit Open.

5 Select Programs from the file list. Hit Open.

6 Select Bank I-A from the list. Hit Open.

7 Scroll down to A039 "Tom Coster's Full On V2". Hit Multiple Select.

8 Select all programs from A039 to A054 inclusive. Hit Load.

9 Make sure that the To program is where you want to load it (presumably I-A039). Hit OK.

You're done!

Repeat steps 3-9 for programs U-C000 to U-C041.

As far as I know, there are no new combis for the update.

Hope this helps.

You can actually do that also on the Kronos itself, without PCGtools

Just open the PRELOAD V2 PCG and drill down to program banks. Only I-A and U-C contain the new CX-3 sounds

If you don't want to overwrite your other programs in I-A and U-C, then open those specific program banks, and only copy/replace I-A039 until I-A054 and U-C000 until U-C041

I am using PCGTools all the time and it works great. I have note tested if it copies the new CX3 programs correctly. Will try that soon

I am surprised you can do it inside the Kronos without PCG Tools. I'm not really following what your instructions are though sorry I'm a bit thick like that.

The manual to do this is in the zip of the mrs. Read all the way through before you try because it tells you how after it tells you how to load the whole v2pcg.

For a complete bank or one single patch you indeed can do it on the Kronos. However, if you want to manage in a more flexible way PCG Tools is the way to go.

I'm sure that PCG Tools works on 2.1 but I will find out this week when I'm upgrading. However, always make a backup first.

I used PCG Tools last week without any problems after the update to OS2.1.0.

Btw ... hopefully soon there will also be support for the Korg Kross.

New Organ programs

Post by jerrymac50 »

Just bought the kronos so I know I screwed up. I just put the new organ programs in and over wrote the old. Now I see I can copy and move them like you said in your fourm. My question is how do I get the original programs back then follow your instruction.

Just load them from the original factory PCG. Honestly the new ones are so much better I doubt you'll miss the old ones, or use them if you get them back.

Load both the old and new PCG file in PCG Tools and you can move/copy them. However, as Sander explained ...the new are better.
