Monotribe midi mod. Gate time ribbon midi capabilities?
Hi all- I asked a similar question to this a while ago but got no joy. Can anyone explain how a Monotribe with a midi modification performs in relation to the Ribbon Gate Time function when connected to an Electribe via midi. eg Can you control the note gate time on your EMX pattern when rubbing the ribbon gate function on a Monotribe connected to it by midi- or what does happen
..... if anything. Cheers.

I might just order the Amazing Machines mod and try it. In my experience running Synth Part 2 bi-directionally with my R3, it transmits the variable gate from the Electribe's arpeggiator, so yes it does transmit to external synths, but I have no idea how the different modes of monotribe ribbon control will affect sending out to a synth part on an x-Electribe.

FWIW, the Miditribe I/O page does list this feature:
Haven't tried it myself and not sure what the implementation is like. Neither the website nor the manu makes it clear *what MIDI message* is transmitted for gate time, which makes me wonder if it actually just alters the timing of the note on/off messages. If that's the case, ribbon gate time will only work in conjunction with the Monotribe sequencer -- not as a gate controller for the EMX patterns.- Control external synths using the Ribbon Controller for Note ON / OFF, Expression Controller (CC 11) and Gate Time

I hooked it up to an ipad synth and what it does is (using the monotribe's sequencer) just shortens or lengthens the note length (time between MIDI sending note on and note off). I can record a pattern on the monotribe and have it play a synth and dynamically change the note length holding down the gate time button and rubbing along the ribbon cable. So it would do the same on one of the EMX synth parts.
Hope that helps.
P.S. you do get some extra CC#7s when you change the gate time, but you would have to have something that utilizes the info.

Do you mean recording the note lengths while the monotribe is controlling the electribe or do you wonder if the motion sequencing would get overridden by the monotribe gate time and ribbon motion?robosardine wrote:It does- many thanks. What I need to know though to fully answer my question (or the question I should have asked more like it) is- can you make use of the motion sequencing on the Electribes whilst using the gate control on a Monotribe to alter the gate time/ note length. Cheers

Thinking about what I said before. The note length that gets recorded on the EMX isn't a motion sequence at all, so the monotribe's gate time + ribbon won't affect any motion sequence only the note lengths.
I started a sequence on the monotribe and had it controlling synth 1 on the EMX and the EMX recorded the notes and lengths and I could vary them via the gate time + ribbon. Note that the EG TIME on the EMX has to be set to the bottom selection to notice the note length change.
The other controls on the monotribe would have to be mapped to some of the controls on the EMX to be able to record the motion sequences.
