Well, damn you, Korg. This is a bit of a disappointment. Instead of providing new software for KP3-enthusiasts, Korg has decided to make a "new" piece of equipment with some added effects. Judging by the name, even the company itself thought it wasn't that much of a new instrument, but instead an add-on to the normal KP3. Otherwise they would've given it a fancier name, right? Like KP4 or, since the KPquad can be seen as KP4, the KP5. Hell, if they would've sold the new set of programmes for about 50 euros/66 dollars, I'd probably be tempted to purchase the set.

Also, in the little teaser-trailer they've put up shows that they apparently fully go with marketing the KAOSS products purely for the dance-scene. I know this was the initial goal of the KAOSS products, and I'm sure they've been very useful. But it would've been very nice to see a slight shift of interest, and to promote the KP3+ not only for dance-music but also for other genres, and in combinations with something else than a turntable or Kaossilator etc.

Korg can do a good job with innovating. I shouldn't be mad just because I could've waited with buying a KP3 for about half a year, and then I wouldn't have missed out on this. But this doesn't seem innovative to me. Neither does the KaossilatorPro+, or the Wavedrum Global, or the MS20-mini (although I'll probably try and get one), or the SP280. Now I might be wrong 'bout the Wavedrum and the SP280, for all I know they might contain mindblowing improvements compared to their predecessors, but that seems unlikely.
The only thing that looks genuinely new is the KingKorg. So let's hope that makes up for the KP3+.

That's SUPER....lazy. Seriously, what a slap in the face to people who bought the normal KP3 recently. This is a shitty direction for Korg to go, this and the stupid MKXL+ is basically signing their death warrant in the hardware department...who's gonna want to buy their s**t when they screw over the early adopters when a simple software upgrade would probably suffice? Part of me hopes that tablets + cheap/free imitation apps totally f*ck Korg over at this point. They should at least offer some kind of upgrade for owners of the previous version. What a crock. Glad I buy all my s**t used...

Oh yeah, and that Kronos X, a year after the original was released? Same deal? Goddamn, I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if I shelled out over 3 grand on that only to have an upgraded one come out a year later. Do they have any idea how shitty they look? It's like they truly have nothing but spite for the most loyal customers.

If you recall, Korg recently had a software download to update the factory presets on the electribes. As the KPro and KP3 use SD cards, there's no reason why they could have simply offered this in the same manner.

Yes, but updating the factory patches is pretty much the only role of the card interface on the 'tribes anyways; it's how you backup and reload your custom patterns and samples on the ESX. It would be an apt comparison if they'd done some firmware tweaks this way, but the KP3 doesn't use the card for firmware updates in any way I'm aware of. Maybe I should reserve my wrath for when we have a better idea if they'll be offering this to existing owners, otherwise it's a straight up dick move.

yes thats true, forgot about that. But, even still, they can just release a firmware update via a file, like they did when they added in the 4 sample triggers, for example. And offer 2, one for the original effects, one for the new ones. But, i guess it doesn't matter as korg has already went with the + models...A shame, really.

Well there is no real way to add sounds or new effects to the KP3 and the Pro. These are really hard programmed into the chip sets. Now the one exception to this rule (maybe) in the case for the KP3 is in the area of new looping capabilities. Some how in the firmware version 2, new looping options / programs were introduced. So are there new looping programs in the KP3+? That is something we could write to korg about and say "we want that in our old gear". Either way I wonder if a general letter to Korg from the fans asking for some way to update our existing could get their attention. Korg needs to know they did piss off their customers with this crappy move.

I just sent Korg and Rich a letterr, so we will see what happens.

Korg will keep silence until you buy every korg product in every variation! They need to produce something new, but they do not want to spend a lot of money. KP3 is rather old, but popular - so here is a little update to try to get your money. Some people will buy it, some will not. But talking about not updating KP3 is useless. Any person bought it for what it was in the moment of purchase - it is already a good product. These new programs are just a trick to attract new customers, who thought KP3 is old and now it is a 2013 modification. I like my KP3 as it is.

The regular Kronos can be upgraded to be just like the kronos X. It just requires another gig of ram.

Though i see where you guys are coming from. I feel the same way about the Electribe that got release in what... 2010. Those Bad boys could have been upgraded in so many cool ways but they just put an SD card slot on them and called it a day.

Personally, my KP3 is wearing out and I was considering getting another used one on Craigslist. However, the new KP3+ is not that much more expensive and the new patches are useful to me. So OK, it's not a bombshell, but it is a useful update. Maybe the fanfare can lead to disappointment but the device itself is on point.

Ah well, I guess that if you bought the original KP3 when it came out, and you can indeed now replace your worn-out KP3 with a new KP3+ for a sweet price, it's wonderful. But for someone who bought a brand-new KP3 half a year ago, and then suddenly there's this KP3+... I'd say that's quite a disappointment.

Still, I hope they release a KP5 or something like that one day, which allows you to even further modify the effects through a computer program, for example the range of the pitch shift mod. Nevertheless I'm quite happy with my KP3 as it is.

For me, one of the alltime disappointments with the kp3 is not being able to route effects to different banks, instead of it being applied globally across all of them. Imagine the power! Alas, its a shame they didn't incorporate that into the + version.

Man, I though exactly the same thing!A simple function such us holding SHIFT button and turn the FX DEPTH for individual pad...
I don't want to start a Future Request here.If korg is really interested they could allow us to contact them directly and make an FR list.
Hope they fail and learn their mistakes soon
PS.I'm not korg hater ,I have a microsampler and love it!(my only complain is I bought it way expensive, and a month later they dropped the price!, that hurt my feelings and my pocket!)
