Korg Kronos Tutorial: 12 Step Sequencer and Patterns

This tutorial shows how to create your own gate patterns (trance gates) by drawing them in the Common Step Sequencer. With the Common Step Sequencer you can draw you own patterns (like custom LFO's) and assign them to almost any parameter you want.

This tutorial shows how you can use your own patterns for volume and filter movements.

Because the Step Sequencer can't be used for synth note patterns i also show a trick how you can do that in the Kronos. In this example i'm creating the Michael Jackson - Billie Jean Bassline and show that you can play that note pattern in any key once you created it.

I can't see how / where to Mute / Unmute the EXi 2 in the tutorial. That part in the tutorial is unclear / too fast.

Any hints?

Hi Ksynth,

you are right, i only mentioned that you have to mute EXI 2 so that you could focus on the gate effect in EXI 1.

The reason that i only mentioned this was because i was under the impression that everyone knows how to mute an EXI. Obviously i was wrong

So here's what to do:
when you are in program mode then the control area on the left of your kronos is by default set to control the programs.

Be sure to press the audio control button (first button of the second row)
Now when you want to change the volume levels of the EXI 1, EXI 2 and Drumtrack you can use the Faders 1 - 3 for that.

Now when you want to mute the EXI1, EXI2 or drumtrack you can use the mute buttons for that, so button 1 mutes EXI 1, button 2 mutes EXI 2, button 3 mutes the drum track.

Be sure you get familiar with this, because it's a great way to use in your performances.

My next tutorial will be a KSC User Sample Management tutorial (os 2.0.2), but after that i have no idea which topics should be covered on a basic level. As far as i know most areas are covered now.

Based on the amount of views of the tutorials i can see that two areas are really interesting for people. The tutorials about sampling and KARMA are really popular, so i'm thinking of creating more advanced user tutorials for those two subjects.

If you got any ideas left for different basic tutorials then let me know.

- advanced: In-depth KARMA programming 2
- advanced: In-depth Sample tutorial

I'm not sure if its already been done somewhere (the official Korg Video Tutorial No 6 only briefly touches on Sampling) and the manual itself seems confusing (Op Guide Page 166?), but I'd like to see a really easy to follow step by step basic Sampling video. Then the more advanced sampling options.

Is there a way to NAME the sample you create before recording or just after? I find that aspect of the sampling process most annoying - having to select a numbered sample rather than something meaningful.

Whatever you create will be helpful I'm sure.

yes, i know a lot of people want to dive in to the ms-20 patch panel programming.

So when the sample user management tutorial is done, then i shift to the next level (intermediate) and start with the MS-20 Patch programming tutorial.

There i will explain how the panel works and i will show some examples to get people started, (like an ocean wave, feedback loops, etc.). Because it's an intermediate tutorial i'm assuming that everyone has the knowledge from the previous 13 tutorials, so i can focus more on the 'fun' and creative stuff you can do with it.

I don't want to create tutorials with a length longer then 15 minutes, so the explanation tempo will also be faster in the tutorials.

Really lookin forward to this!
