Is there a way to calibrate the ribbon controller? I looked in global, and couldn't find a setting for the ribbon. I seem to have to press down pretty firmly to get it to work.(This is my first experience with a ribbon contoller)

You can't calibrate the Ribbon :(

No calibration for this.
I do find the ribbon works well with some patches, but overall not to pleased with the application results.
I have to put quite a bit of pressure on it also.

It can be preciselly edited using the AMS mixer.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if I just missed a menu.

This is my first Korg with the ribbon controller, and was wondering if anyone could comment on how it compares to the Triton etc.

It seems you need to press it quite hard to activate it, and having to press it so hard means that it isn't smooth to operate - the friction between the pad and your finger makes it hard to move smoothly.

The technology they've used seems more like the ribbon controller in the Monotron than say, a laptop trackpad. So just wondering how it comapres and how people make good use of the ribbon.

To me the ribbon controller feels virtually identical to the Triton Extreme. There are quite a few more things you can do with it in the Kronos, however. Like the Triton Extreme it gets a bit flaky toward the extreme edges; but, that's just a limitation of that technology and not some implementation-specific thing.
Like Basari said, you can fine-tune the effect of the ribbon controller using AMS which allows for some very precise control if you're patient enough to work for it.
Also, don't forget the myriad other controls. If you're having trouble dialing in exactly the right amount of control with the ribbon, ask yourself if maybe a slider or vector joystick wouldn't be more worth controlling the parameter in question.

Cheers!

My ribbon controller requires very little pressure... Until you get to the last inch on the right. It seems completely dead there.

Yeah, the far edges- left and right- are a bit squirrely so as long as you keep the parameter range toward the center of the ribbon you have pretty good control...

Cheers!

+1

I can also say it feels pretty identical to the one on my Triton ProX
