Hey yall, I'm looking to expand my hardware sample banks and was waiting/hoping for the Kaoss Quad to fill that need but it doesnt look like it.

I'm using an ESX into a KP3 but want more room to build up improvised songs live using additional sample banks.

The roland sp404 was my initial choice but I dont know much about how it handles live sampling and playback. I like the idea of being able to resample off the KP3 into the 12 sample banks of the 404 on the fly.

Does the Kpro handle sampling the same way the kp3 does/can you apply effects/filters to your samples the same way?

its so easy to sample on the kp3, I'm considering just getting another.

If samplebanks and multible sampletriggering are more important to you than sound-manipulation/creative mayhem, i'd go for the Roland SP-555.
The SP404 is cheaper, but have fewer pots/knobs, triggers etc. The SP-555=Live friendly, less Shift+PAD1-12, more hands-on, user-friendly.

If you can find an SP-606, it's better than the 555 and 404 in many regards. The 606 has an LCD to display the sample for editing. It also has a software editor, velocity pads, and step recording. I've owned all three. The 606 is limited to 512MB CompactFlash however. The 404 can use 1GB CF and the 555 2GB CF. 512MB is still a lot of sample time. Editing samples by ear is a royal pain in the arse on the 404 and 555.

I also own the KP3, K-Pro, miniKP, and Zoom MRS-8. Each have their own unique functions. The Roland samplers are better for long samples, one shots, and loops that you've made in advance. The KP3 is better for live looping, it's Pad FX, and Drum patterns. The K-Pro has awesome sounding synth programs that can be controlled by key, scale, and octave range, with good looping too. The miniKP is great for battery powered FX without sampling. The MRS-8 is great for multi-track playback of backing tracks.
