Damper Pedal Korg DS 1-H stays "on"

I bought a new damper pedal off Ebay. When I plug it in, it makes piano keys stay in "sustained" mode, even without pressing the pedal.
What does a guy do to get that to work? It's a Korg product so there must be an answer.

turn off the korg and connect pedal. then turn off the korg. must be ok.

You may need to change the polarity in Global mode. Make sure to 'write' the changes in Global so that it stays when you power off.
For example, default polarity is KORG standard (+), but if the pedal is negative (-) standard then notes will sustain when it is off, and not sustain when you hold the pedal down.

I got that down, but for the "write" part. The Korg manual seems to indicate that global settings are lost when the unit is turned off and back on.
But you state good news that it can be written so that it is not a chore to do each time the keyboard is turned on.
If it's not too hard to explain the "write" function when setting the pedal in global, please tell.
