Hello, I recently watched a video of someone playing a guitar into a MS20 to get some awesome sounds. I was wondering if this was possible with the MS2000.

If you put it in program AUDIO INIT(I think it's H15)-> filter,delay, arpeggio,
LFOs, distortion, virtual patch can be used on it which enables you much more and simpler than patching all the cables through.
If the sound from the guitar is coming back from a monitor or loudspeaker, then with a mic you can trigger one of the vocoder programs which is instant fun using EG1-2, filter, portamento, different waveshapes, ringmodulation etc.

You don't need to be going through a speaker to use the vocoder. You can plug directly in without the need for a mic.


You can do a fair bit by putting external signals like guitar through your synths. However, you won't get it to track the pitch of the guitar and sound like a synth like in the video there. You'd need a MIDI pickup system or a guitar synth pedal to use first which you'd then plug into the MS2000.

Oh ok. Is that MS 20 in the video somehow MIDI compatible??? I was under the impression that those were pre midi. Hmm. Perhaps it's something that can only be achieved on modular/semimodular analogs and not VA's.

The MS20 is not MIDI compatible and that guitar doesn't have a MIDI pickup as far as I can see.

However I know the MS20 has an 'external signal processor' section which may have allowed the guitarist to sync the oscillators to the guitar or to at least create an octave effect to make the guitar sound more synth-like (before passing through the filters).


Still you can achieve some pretty interesting effects with the filter, LFOs, effects, distortion, and ring modulation settings. but you won't get your guitar to actually play the synth note-for-note.

I can't seem to get my guitar to run through my ms2000...

I've put it on program H15 with my guitar through audio in 1 but I can't get any sound!
Am I missing something obvious here? I am v new to all this like! I kinda thought you could edit the guitars signal with all the filters etc, but maybe you can't?

if you are plugging the guitar in directly (as opposed to the output from a pedal) then it is mic level...so plug it into audio 2 in and set the line/mic switch to mic.

maybe a little late on this one but i've been tinkering with this lately...

use a guitar multi effect or simple distortion pedal before the audio in and you will get enough signal as well as a little control over tone, gain and level going into the ms2000. if you want a clean tone just dial back the gain and boost the level or volume on your unit. i've been using a big muff which can be a little noisy but i like that and the input is gated suprisingly well for cutting out the unwanted noises.

i was really amazed at how well this worked right out of the gate. i have the rack version so i found the audio in init patch, hooked everything up, set the arp to latch and hit a key then i was getting all kinds of psych-guitar tones.
