Wavestation and Garageband

Post by youdevil »

I have installed KL Wavestation on my iMac and can play it using a midi connection from my Roland keyboard.

But I cannot see Wavestation listed in Garageband in the TRACK INFO soft synth list.

How do I get it to appear in that inventory so I can assign it to a track?

Thanks.

If there is a way I'd like to know too please.

I have Logic 8 as well and the KLC 1.2.2 doesn't appear in the normal library browser on the right. To access the Korgs, you need to click on the instrument button on the channel strip: it appears there in the menu. Maybe there's another way of selecting the KLC in Garageband? Any help would be appreciated.

All the best

jj

more re garageband and digital legacy

Post by youdevil »

I've since learned that Garageband docks in/inventories soft synths via the "Audio Unit" folder, but I don't how to put what into that folder.

I sent a message to korg support since they claim that the digital legacy is a AU-compatible, but so far no response.

OK, you wee devil, here goes

I expect there's a lot of head shaking going out there in "experienced land" but I hope this all works out for you. It did for me.

First of all, I'm using GB5 or '09 or whatever. I've also installed the latest syncrosoft dongle yaddah yaddah so basically, everything's up to date and legal.

Plug in the dongle so that the AUs will work.

Open up GB in a new project.

Select the first track's instrument, say, Grand Piano.

Open up the inspector, make sure Software Instrument is selected rather than Master Track.

There are 2 tabs. One is Browse, and this is where I'd mistakenly been looking for the KORG stuff. WROOOOOOOOOONG!!! Select the Edit tab.

In the Sound Generator windoid, mine says "Piano." Click on this to bring up a menu and, hey, look what's lurking at the bottom? A wee menu called, "Audio Unit Modules" with all your Korg stuff waiting there for you. Can you feel it?!

Select, say, Wavestation. Now click on the icon in Sound Generator that used to be a piano but is now an orange circle and your AU instrument appears. Go ahead and select whatever patch you're after.

Now, if all this doesn't work, you might need GB to rebuild your AU list. To do this, first check that your KORG components are in order. Mine were installed into: (root drive)/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and there they all are.

If they're not there, then I think you need to uninstall and reinstall the KORG stuff. GB should then rebuild your AU list when it starts up again.

Let me know if this works. For me, it was just realising where the AUs were selected as in my previous post.

All the best

Thanks! I will try it.

FYI, just got this from Korg Support, sounds like the same solution:

GarageBand doesn’t handle Audio Units quite in the same straight forward manner that other DAWs do. What you’ll want to do is create a new “Software Instrument Track”, go to the “Track Info” and expand “Details”. From the “Details” menu, pull down the Instrument Generator list and you should be able to select the Wavestation or any other AU that you have installed from there. To get to the GUI (Graphic User Interface), click on the pencil icon to the right of Manual.

I think so, although I think it depends on which version of GB you're using. I suspect the interface has changed very recently. My description is for GB5 ('09)
