Apple took firewire off the normal macbooks, probably in order to encourage power users such as musicians to upgrade to the pro range (and spend their unlimited supply of money?!).
if you have a PC laptop you can get a PCMCIA card firewire interface. these cards are basically expansion cards for laptops, although I have seen adaptors for PCs too...
There isn't any USB>FireWire adaptor as far as I know. the speeds of the two differ greatly.
Edit:
I just noticed one company has made an adaptor but only for DV camera applications.... Something more may come around in the future but I wouldn't hold your breath...

Does the Z4 have Midi in and out?
If so you could get a usb to midi interface to at least use the midi aspects of the mixer.

Just found this hub that adds two FW 400 ports to your macbook. I have not tried it but it might be worth a look in?

looks from the diagrams and the spec that this needs to plug into both a USB and a FireWire socket on the laptop. its basically a USB hub and a FireWire hub rolled into one... unfortunately.
From what I was reading it is virtually impossible because firewire achieves a faster throughput speed than USB over sustained connections. so any FireWire/USB adaptor interface would be a bottleneck slowing down the data connection and reducing bandwidth.
don't know about USB 3.0 though
