Setting up Synths from my laptop, (help please!)

can anyone give me some very detailed steps as to how I can run a synth setup from my laptop, and have it run through a PA
I need a complete rundown from start to finish, im completely new to softsynths, and i need help!

The first step is to determine if you controller has USB out or MIDI only. If you have USB then you are one step ahead. Also make sure that you have the most current USB drivers for your controller. I will assume that your laptop has XP installed...if so it will be that much easier.
In some cases the laptop sound is sufficient for general output into a PA. If you are running a current laptop you should be able to run ASIO4ALL drivers from the .com website by the same name. This will enable low latency playback from your soft synths.
The next thing is to determine if you your softsynths provide a "stand-alone" mode. If so, it is an easy step of merely pointing the MIDI input to your USB device (the controller) and pointing the Audio outputs to the ASIO4ALL ASIO driver.
If not it becomes more complex. You will need a front end for the softsynth such as Steinberg's V-Stack. This acts as a host for the softsynths. You will use the above settings for your MIDI and Audio setup in the front end.
