Assign a sequence to a pad

Post by spec24 »

Can this be done? Assign a series of notes to a pad rather than a chord? Or have it play maybe a pattern?

No you can't, at least not within the M3 directly.

Did I understand this question? Probably not, but my M3 has KARMA  and KARMA can do that without any problem. Listen to many of the COMBI's and PROG's (banks A for starters) switch KARMA on and push the pads. There are "series of notes" (and yes, chords too) all over the place.

This seems so obvious, that I surely must have misunderstood the questioner.

Refer to the relevant section in the Parameter Guide. Depending on where you are on your M3 Odyssey, maybe start with the Operation Guide or, perhaps even with the pdf "M3 Tips - KARMA level 2 introductory tour." Good luck.

Hmm, I can record a full chord progression, a series of notes or just any controller in realtime, and make it play back or loop by triggering a pad.

But I use an external app that handles that, would love to know how you do that directly on the M3.

well, i'm sure it's in the book, i noticed on some the of presets that when i touch and hold a pad it's not just a single hit, but a series of arp style patterns that come out based on a specific chord usually, so it must be possible to do if you read the appropriate section of the paramet guide or operators guide

Off course you can make a pad trigger a GE which will then play what ever it's suppose to play which can be pretty much anything.

Not sure what the OP means exactly, playing back some notes generated by karma or play back your own recorded notes.

I don't see a way to record live a serie of notes and/or controllers over time and assign them to a pad.

In sequencer mode if you assign an RPPR pattern to a particular key, and then assign a pad to play that key surely the pad will play the pattern, right ? ;-)

Try it ... let us know (no M3 here)

I didn't play much with seq mode, but when I tried RPPR it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. Could be that I'm missing something.

What I want, is to hit the chord assign button (or anything else), and that everything that I play (notes, CCs, bend, ...) during that time is recorded until I hit a pad.

That's what I do with my app but it needs the pc to be connected, and use a foot switch to start the recording instead of using the chord assign button.

It's still a work in progress but the idea is to be able to record in different modes:

1) stacked: this is a bit like the chord mode, every key or cc that I play will be played back at the same time (only one value of a given cc is recorded). Good for storing chords, cc's that act as state.
2) realtime: Everything will play back at the recorded time, best for realtime params control. A bit like the motion recorder but for everything (optional off course).
3) synced: same as 2) but timestamp in ticks instead of msec. Changing the tempo will affect the playback timing. Best for chord progressions, riffs,..

If I hit a pad twice in a short time (dble-click), the patterns will loop.
If I hold the pads over a given time the patterns stop on pad release.
In case of mode 1, an off status will put back the CCs or params in the state they had before hitting the pad.

To make my life easier, I assign certain pads to specific modes, as the idea is to do the recording in realtime, while karma may be running, so no time for too much thinking.

that stuff + karma = 8) 8) 8)

It's also neat when I decide to take the bass or the guitar in the middle of a live gig.

Anyway, would be neat to have that integreated in the M3 without having to fool around in seq mode.

EDIT:
What would be really fantastic is to be able to record a pattern in realtime and that it's automatically converted and used as a GE, without a glitch :D
