I have no idea about Hell Boy or Hancock.

All the superhero flicks are at the top of the list. I just heard about Star Trek and it FINALLY looks like it might be cool. Even The Hulk might get some redemption.

Sorry, but I can't get too excited about any of the movies you listed. It seems that almost every movie these days, and in the last X number of years since digital effects became the norm, at least the in the 'action' genre, is merely a game of effects oneupmanship.

People getting up and walking away from various fatal situations, cars still being able to be driven after multiple horrendous collisions. Nope, give me a solid and credible storyline, great acting, anything that'll keep me awake after ten minutes into the flick. The last one to do that was The Bank Job.

Do yourselves a favour, go see it.

I DO understand your point. CG has taken over the industry. The best car chase scene was the one take scene complete with engine noise in Bullitt. No effects. All real (till the explosion).

However, one aspect I appreciate when I go see a movie, especially of the nature listed above is the fantasy aspect. The story might be INcredible. But that is why I went. I can walk down the street and see tons of credible storylines.

Acting I TOTALLY agree with you on. It seems with the CG that action-styled actors have to do less and less. And if they make a mistake, it can be corrected with CG. BUT...I do the same thing with my music productions, so i can't fault them that much...it is just easier (and less expensive) to correct sometimes than replay.

The Bank Job is a great example of the dramatization of a real story. Whereas Indiana Jones is a great example of pure fiction...and someone we all might wish we were to some extent.

Spot on, JonSolo. CG has indeed taken over the industry and, for me, the industry is the poorer for it - not in the monetary sense, of course.
"Bullitt" was done the way it was because it had to be - no opportunity to CG it then, and that's a huge part of the reason why it comes off as a classic.

Sure, we all do the same thing with our music for the reasons you mention and - because we can. So, is our music the poorer for it? I think not, because we stay within the bounds, for the most part, of what many of us are aiming to end up with, a saleable product, which is just what the movie industry is after as well.

There, I've just shot my own argument in the foot, and clearly, I haven't made millions with my own products, but, over the years, I have made hundreds of dollars in music.

I think CG is great for the comic book movies like Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk (and yes, I was a fan of the TV show with Lou Ferigno). I will agree though, it's allowing people to be less and less talented in the acting field. Now, it seems, to qualify for a good acting position - look good and have some scandals between filmings!!
