Brass Sound

I hope you guys can give me some pointers.

Usually I have been occupied emmulating key-based instruments like Organ, piano and synth. I'm getting pretty good at even getting the Organ stuff right. I have also learned that the sound that you play (or timbre) is not everything, but what is even more important is the expression you use. For instance vol. pedal on organ or some stick or aftertouch modulation for synths.

I'm now standing with the challenge of emulating a Brass section for rock and 70 disco music. As for now I have all the presets in the TEX, but I cant seem to get them to sound right. It always ends up sounding rather "canny" or like "they've got a cold" (hope you understand this rather non-technical description).

i know that there are some very good sounds in the download section, but it's very tidious to go through everything in order to find a brass sound.

I would like some pointer to the following:
1. A good versetile patch (both a standard TEX, downloadable or payable) that emmulated a brass section of trumpet, trombone and sax
2. some pointers on how to express these sonunds to make them natural, and actually sound like a brass section
3. are the standard TEX patches really bad? is it the samples or the patch?

I'd be looking forward to any inputs.

You should build your combi from simple horn sounds instead of ensemble voices. Try using three different trumpets, then alto, tenor, and baritone sax and a trombone. Pay attention to the initial attack, which is usually what makes synthesized horn parts sound fake.

Yea, I sort of figured that. I always seems to make my sounds to complex

Still do you think the Brass samples in the Triton is good enough?

Another point is multisamples, are they good? - would it pay of to buy some Brass samples in wav format?

After selecting the required samples I still need to ass vibrato and effects to the sound, and really I have little experience in programming these sounds from the sample point. Does anybody care to take a shot? Or maybe share what ever brass sound you use.

just a side note - if you are making a brass section combi from the prog banks, you can use the copy from program option (drop down menu from main combi screen) to copy that program's effects as well - which may make them sound more realistic.
