Hi! This is my first music workstation EVER, I'm still in the process of learning it (just bought the sudosonic vids), but I'm having some problems making combis, which also interferes with my ability to use seq. mode.

Let me describe the situation: I open up combi mode, I go to the user sounds (I want to make my own combi), everything is set to the basic piano. I choose the program I want in program mode, go to combi mode, load in the program to track one. Cool. I play it, and it sounds great, just like in program mode. Well, not being done yet, I go into program mode, find the next sound I want, load it into track 2 of combi mode. For some reason, all the effects of the sound in track 1 are either disabled, or replaced by the effects that are supposed to be in track 2.

I know I'm doing something wrong, I tried using the search function in the forum to see if anybody else had this problem (I go to alot of other forums and know how annoying it is when people don't use the search), but I'm not finding any other results. I know this isn't an actual problem with the keyboard, but a user error, but not even the sudosonic vids help with this. They don't even explain how to make a combi (why, I don't know).

In Program mode you have one Program and 5 IFX slots available to use with just that one Program. In Combi mode you have 16 timbres and 5 IFX slots that need to shared by all 16 timbres (timbre = Program without KARMA settings and without IFX settings). See the problem ? Whatever mode you are in there are only 5 IFX slots that have to be shared by all the sounds you are using. So a Program that uses 5 IFX in Program mode, will "steal" all the IFX slots when you copy it into Combi or Seq mode.

So how could I have 5 good sounds in a combi at once? Is it even possible? Lets say I want an electric guitar sound, 2 different synth sounds, a drum sound, and a choir sound. I want these sounds to sound exactly like they would in program mode. How would I go around to doing this?

I got another question too, about sequencer mode. Whenever I record, say an elec. guitar sound, then I overdub over the top of that with a synth sound (with multi REC turned on), instead of just pasting the synth along with the previously recorded guitar, it adds the synth, AND it gives the guitar sound the effects that the synth ALONE should have (and vice versa)! Why is this?

I would suggest studying and tweaking existing combinations and see what "makes them tick." It's a good learning experience.

If I want to use a program in a combi, I go to Program P8/IFX Setup and switch off the effects one by one to hear how the IFXs affect the sound.
You'll find out that most of the times there is only one, maybe two important effects that you need to use in the combi. This is because the other FX are programmed to respond to the sliders or other controllers. You may also look at the effects pages IFX1-5 to see wether the effect is set to "dry" or "wet". That's another way to determine if it is really used or not.
Then I copy the single IFX to the combi.
